Will of John Foster 1816

Last Will and Testament of John FOSTER of Baltimore county, Dated 11 March 1816, and Codicil dated 30 March 1816

In the name of God Amen, I John Foster, of Baltimore county in the state of Maryland, being weak of body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory, and under-standing; considering the certainties of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affaairs, and thereby the better to prepare to leave the world when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following, that is to say:

First and Principally: Commit my soul unto the hands and care of ALMIGHTY GOD and hipe for redemption through the merits of Jesus Christ, and my body to the dust to be decently interred by my executor hereinafter mentioned, and bequeath as folllows:

I will and bequeath to Mary Crookers two children John and Joshua all that part of Fosters Hunting Ground and part of Borings Range lying and being in the county and state aforesaid between the lands of John Hoffacker, Jacob Markpile, and the lands I conveyed to Millision Lemmon, whereon John Stansbury now lives, containing eight acres more or less to them, the said John and Joshua Crooker their heirs and assigns foreeever, Also I will and bequeath to the said John and Joshua Crooker for their only use and benefit Negroe George, to do with him as they think proper.
I will and bequeath Negro Abraham to John B. Foster's two childrenm Ellen Foster and Sarah Ann Foster, for their proper use and benefit to dispose of as they may think proper, when they arrive at lawful age.

I will and bequeath all that tract of land where I now live called Solomn's Chance, lying in the county and State aforesaid, containing 588 acres of land, more or less, to Solomon Foster his heirs and assigns forever.

I give two other tracts of land lying and being in the county and state aforesaid, one containing 18 acres of land, more or less. The 40 acres called Bushy Hill, and the 18 acres called Ramble, to Solomon Foster, his heirs and assigns forever.

I will and bequeath to my grandson John Tyre Foster, Negro JAcob, that my wife has willed to the said John Tyre Foster, his heirs and assings forever.

I will and bequeath to my son Solomon Foster, Negro Anny and Negro Nick, to him the said Solomon Foster, his heirs and assigns forever.

I give and bequeath to my son Solomon Foster all the outstanding obligations, book accounts, or other lawful debts due me or may be due me hereafter with full power to collec, recieve, and enjoy same.

I will and bequeath to my son Solomon Foster all the residue of my rel and personal estate whatever to him, his heirs and assigns forever.

And lastly I hereby constitue and appoint my son Solomon Foster my whole and sole executor of this last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former wills heretofore by me made ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament.

I testimoney whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 11th day of March 1816.

Signed, sealed and declared by John Foster, the above testator as and for hhis last will and testament, in the presence of us, who at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names thereto.

WHEREAS: I John Foster of Baltimore county in the state of Maryland have made and duly publish my last will and testament in writting bearing date March 11, 1816, which said last will and testament, and every clause thereto, and bequeath and devise contained, I do hereby ratify and confirm. Be if further known that I have given unto all my children herein after named, all the real and personal estate I intend giving them, as per deeds on record will mainly appear, excepting one shilling to each of them, and no more, as my codicil will appear.

I give unto my son George Foster, one shilling and no more.
I give unto my daughter Patience Walker one shilling and no more.
I give unto my son Absolosom Foster, one shilling and no more.
I give unto my son Nicholas Foster, one shilling and no more.
I give unto my daughter Comfort Lemmon, one shilling and no more.
I give unto my son Elijah Foster one shilling and no more.
I give unto my daughter Millicent Lemmon, one shilling and no more.

I hereby make this my codicil which I will and direct shall be taken and help as part of my last will and testament.
In testamony whereof I hereto set my hand and affix my seal the thirty day of April 1816.
