Last Will of Testament of WILLIAM AMBROSE of Baltimore county, MD, Dated 28 December 1831, proved 5 November 1833

William Ambrose's Last Will and Testament. In the name of God, Amen! I William Ambrose of Baltimore County in the State of Maryland being weak of body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby to be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, I therefore make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say: First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor herein after named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Ambrose one one bead, beadstead and bead clothing, one cow, and two hundred and seventy-five dollars in cash.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Elizabeth Ambrose one one bead, beadstead and clothing, one cow, and two hundred and seventy-five dollars in cash, as also one side saddle, And also all the remaining residue of my personal and real property I leave in the hands of my herein after named executor to be by himself aforesaid(?) sold at public auction or otherwise disposed of by him(?) in the most advantageous manner and the remainder of the monies arising to be divided between my other six children herein after named, in manner and form, following(?), to wit:

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Ambrose two hundred and seven dollars.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son Didymuse Ambrose seventy-nine dollars.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son Robert Ambrose forty two dollars and seventy seven cents.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my son James Ambrose two hundred and twenty seven dollars.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Gill wife of Nicholas Gill one hundred and four dollars.

ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Osbern wife of Thomas Osbern two hundred five dollars and twenty five cents.

ITEM. I devise and bequeath all the rest and residue of my monies to my four sons and three daughters above mentioned and named to them their heirs and assigns forever share and share alike.

AND LASTLY I do hereby constitute and appoint Charles Ambrose my eldest son to be sole executor of this my last will and testament revokeing and annuling all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying this and none other to be my last will and testament.

IN TESTIMONY whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal, this twenty eighth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-one.

Signed sealed published and declared by William Ambrose the above named testator, as and a codicil to his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who, at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

On the 5th day of November 1833, came Joseph Osborn and Mordecai Parrish two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last Will and Testament of William Ambrose late of said County deceased and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see the Testator sign and seal this Will That they heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that they together with Philip Snider the other subscribing witness thereto subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other. On the 8th day of November 1833, came Philip Snider one of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last Will and Testament of William Ambrose late of said County deceased and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see the Testator sign and seal this Will, that he heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that he together with Joseph Osborn and Mordecai Parrish the other two subscribing witness thereto subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other.
