Last Will & Testament of Robert Akins of Baltimore County, Dated 23 July 1728
In the name of God, Amen. I, Robert Akins of Baltimore County in the Province of Maryland, being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind and memory (praise be unto Almighty God) do hereby ordain this to be my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave it to me & my body to be commited to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian manner. As touching my worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with, I do hereby will and beqeath it to be devised in the following manner, Viz:
First I do will and bequeath to my wife, Margaret, the use of the house and land that I now live on and sufficent support from the same for the remainder of her natural life and at her death the same is to pass to my eldest son, Alexander Akins together with all my personal estate of whatever kind it may be and including my farming utensils, horses, carriage, guns, sword, seal, crest, bible and chest.
Secondly I do will and ordain that my plantation at Upper Node Forest be sold and that the proceeds arising from the sale thereof be used to pay all of my just debts and furneral expenses, and that the residue be equally divided between my younger sons, Robert, John and Thomas Akins.
Further I do hereby appoint my wife's brother Henry Forsyth, Junr. of Clones, Ireland, to sale that property left to me by my father John Akins in Ireland as his eldest son and heir, and that the proceeds arising therefrom be used to bring over my aged mother, Elizabeth Dalgliesh Akins, and my sisters Janet, Elizabeth and Mary to the Colony of Maryland and that any residue be set aside for their support.
Lastly I do nominate my wife Margaret and my son Alexander to be the executors of this my last will and testament wherefore I do set my hand and seal on this 23 day of July, Seventeen hundred and twenty eight.
