KEMP, Thomas E.Miss Edwina B. BURNETT17 Feb 1886 KEMP BURNETT The Presbyterian Church at Ashland, Northern Central Railroad, was the scene of a very pretty wedding at 6 o'clock on Wednesday evening, February 17th, the contracting parties being Mr. Thomas E. Kemp, a highly respected citizen of Phoenix, and Miss Edwina B. Burnett, daughter of Mrs. Lydia Burnett. The ceremony was performed by Rev. S. M. Perry, pastor of the church, in the presence of a very large assemblage of the relatives and friends of the bride and groom. Miss Ida Riley presided at the organ and played the usual wedding march as the party advanced to the altar in the following order: Ushers, Messrs. Nicholas Hutchins and Cyrus Coe, followed by the groom and his best man, Mr. Pearce Richardson: maids of honor, Miss Carrie Coe and Miss Ella Price, followed by the bride, attended by her sister, Miss Annie Burnett. The bride and her attendants were all very handsomely dressed and each carried a beautiful bouquet of natural flowers. The gentleman were all appropriately dressed, at the wedding party presented a very pretty scene as it advanced to the chancel. After the ceremony the bride and groom, with a number of intimate friends, repaired to the residence of Mrs. Burnett, near Phoenix, where an elaborate supper had been prepared and the happy couple received the hearty congratulations of their friends. The bride received a number of beautiful and useful presents, among the most elegant being those from the groom and her sister, Miss Annie Burnett. Among those who attended the reception were Dr. A. Price and wife, Mr. Harry Smith and wife, Mr. Benj. Johnson and wife, Mr. James Parker and wife, Mr. Chas. H. Anderson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fristoe, Mr. Purcell and daughters, Mr. H. L. Bowen and daughters, Mrs. Proctor, Mrs. Pocock, Mrs. Ware, Misses Nellie and Sadie Parker, Miss Jennie Badders, Miss Clara Price, Miss Estella Curtis, Mr. E. Scharf, Messrs. Harry and Seymour Piersol, Mr. W. H. Curtis, Mr. W. Pocock and many others.
An agreeable feature of the evening was a complimentary serenade tendered to the bride and groom by the Phoenix cornet band, the members of which, after discoursing a number of poplar airs, were handsomely entertained.
