I am seeking information about an aunt of mine who
was a stripper in Baltimore in the late 1940's and 1950's. I'm not sure when
she quit stripping. I know that she performed under the name of Shirley but
not sure what surname she used. Could have been Patrick, Durham, or Cornwell.
Am also not sure of where she performed other than I have heard it said, "The
Devil's Kitchen". Is that an area of Baltimore? a club? or just my
family's terminology??? Pictures of her during that time show her as a very "Jean
Harlow" type curvy blond. Her unmarried name was Charlene PATRICK
and at the time she was stripping she was divorced from Carl DURHAM. I believe
she met her later husband (Walt CORNWELL) while she was working. He was a
merchant marine.
