VICTORY | Luke | 26 Feb 1832 | 29 Feb 1832 | Obituary - The last sad rites and deep regrets which accompany the frail remnant of humanity to its peaceful home, are transient still, when compared with the recollections which are cherished in the breasts of those who survive their loss, and justly appreciate departed worth and virtue, Amiability of disposition, integrity of character and a strict adherence to the Christian duties were qualities conspicuously preserved in the relative situations of husband, father, friend, and christian by the last Luke Victory. A long illness, which he bore with christian submission, only tended the better to fit him for a future state; and while he may have regretted a separation from his family as their earthly guardian, his consolation and hope was in that God whose laws he had endeavoured to fulfil. He was descended from a very respectable family in the county of Longford, in Ireland, and was for many years a worthy and esteemed citizen of Baltimore. This trifling and inadequate tribute to his worth is given by one who will long hold his memory in respect, and whose hand on his death-bed clasped a last farewell, - "Widow and children mourn not, for your loss is his eternal gain."
