GILLGeorge M.?? Nov 188726 Nov 1887Obituary--George M. Gill--George M. Gill, the oldest member by admission to the bar of Maryland, died suddenly on the steps leading to his office St. Paul street, on Friday morning ??th inst., aged 85 years, from paralysis of the heart superinduced by acute indigestion. Mr. Gill was a man of remarkable vigor of mind and body, and literally died with the harness on. When not prevented by ill health he was always to be found at his office. On the morning of his death he left his residence and proceeded to his office by a blue-line car. As he was about to go into his office he was noticed by some friends as being feeble. They assisted him to his office, and when attempting to ascend the steps he sank and died in about half an hour.
No member of the bar in Maryland stood higher in integrity of character than Mr. Gill, and he was an honor to the profession. He enjoyed an extensive practice, being regarded as one of the safest cousellors at the bar. In his long life he enjoyed the confidence of his fellow citizens in many places of trust and honor. He was a Democrat of the strictest school, but he never aspired to political position, though during the term of Judge Brown as Mayor Mr. Gill was City Counsellor. He was also a member of the Constitutional Convention in 1867. He had also been a director in the Northern Central and also the Western Maryland Railroad.
Mr. Gill was twice married, his first wife being Miss Ann W. McElderry, and the second, who survives him, Miss Ann McKinn Bowly. Mr. Gill leaves one son, Mr. John Gill, a member of the bar, and six daughters.. Mrs. Anne Brown, who died in October last, and was the wife of Gen. Stewart Brown, was a daughter of Mr. Gill by his first wife.
Mr. Gill left a large estate which he managed himself.

Now dear husband, fare you well,
With you on earth I cease to dwell,
Our union here, though short was sweet,
I hope in Heaven we soon shall meet.
I know that you will lonely be.
Yet do not grieve or weep for me
For I am free from every pain,
THen pray that we shall soon meet again
Farewell dear Annie, cold is the bed
Where thou doth sleep beneath the sod
May angels guard thy guilest head
While your bright spirit rests with God.
