John DeWitt, oldest son of Louis Bevier DeWitt (West Point, Orange County, New York) and Mary Brawsrtoni (unsure of all the letters in the last name) was born 31 May 1854 (sic. I believe in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland. )
John married Florence Eleanor Buchanan on 4 December 1876 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky. In the St. Pauls Episcopal Church by Rector Rev William Pettis. Florence is the third daughter of Henry Buchanan (of Botetourt County, Virginia) and Maria Louisa CorkIsland (sic. unsure of all the letters in the last name)from Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky.

There is a beautiful letter written by John to his wife Florence on their 10th wedding anniversary inside the front pages of the bible. This was her anniversary gift that year. (1886)
