In the Name of God Amen--I SARAH GASSAWAY, of Ann Arundel County in the province of Maryland, being sick and weak of body but of a sound mind and memory and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following.
First principally I bequeath my soul to God that gave me it. Hoping for the remission of all my sins thru the merits and meditation of my blessed redeemer Jesus Christ. My body I give to the earth to be therein decently interred at the discretion of my executor hereafter named and as for such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath them in the manner following. I give and bequeath unto my loving son THOMAS GASSAWAY a pair of gold studs. I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter ANN CHAPMAN all my wearing apparel. I likewise give and bequeath unto said daughter one negro boy named PLATO and the negro girl named CLEMENY I give unto my grandson WILLIAM CHAPMAN. I give and bequeath unto my loving granddaughter SARAH JOHNS a negro boy named CATO and a negro girl named TAMAR and my one-third part of the legacy left her by her grandfather. I likewise give unto my said granddaughter my best feather bed and furniture and a piece of silk tissue and silk lining. I also give unto my said granddaughter three heifers and my chaise and chaise horse. I give and bequeath unto my loving son NICHOLAS GASSAWAY and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten all my three tracts of land and plantation left me by my father and lying in Road River Neck, and in default of such heirs from my said son NICHOLAS, I give and bequeath the above said land and plantation unto my above said son THOMAS GASSAWAY and the heirs of his body lawfully begotten, and in default of such heirs from my said son THOMAS then give the above said land and plantation unto my above said grand daughter SARAH JOHNS and her heirs forever. Lastly I give and bequeath unto my said loving son NICHOLAS GASSAWAY all the remainder and residue of my personal estate (after my just debts and legacies are paid) and I do likewise appoint him my said son NICHOLAS GASSAWAY my sole executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made and acknowledging this to my last Will and Testament. In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this nineteenth day of May Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred and sixty-four.

MARY CARROLL

MARGARET CARROLL.
On the 23rd day of October 1765 came JOHN JACOBS, MARY CARROLL, and MARGARET CARROLL the three subscribing evidences to the within last Will and Testament of SARAH GASSAWAY, late of Ann Arundel County, deceased and made oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testatrix therein named sign and seal this will and heard her publish pronounce and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament, and at the time of her so doing, she was to the best of their apprehension of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and that they respectively did set their names as evidence to said will in the presence and at the request of the said Testatrix and at her request and that they did the same in the presence of each other.
