In the name of God, Amen. I, Margaret Gardiner of Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland do make and publish this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit:
To my grandson William H Peake I give and bequeath my Negro woman Nelly and my Negro boy Benjamin Naylor, aged four years. To my grand-daughter Margaret Lucinda Peake I give my Negro girl Rachel. To my grandson Thomas G Bird I give my Negro boy Robert Naylor, aged six years. To my daughter Margaret Peake wife of William H Peake I give and bequeath all the real estate of which I die possessed. To my son-in-law William H Peake I give my little Negro boy (one year old) named Henry Carr and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son-in-law William H Peake to be sole executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this ninth day of August one thousand eight hundred and fifty-six.
Signed, sealed, published and declared by Margaret Gardiner the above named Testator
as and for her last will and testament, who at her request in her presence and
in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses.

Then came JW Chew one of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament
of Margaret Gardiner and made oath on the Holy Evangely of almighty God that he did see the
Testatrix sign and seal this will, that he heard her publish, pronounce and declare the same
to be her last will and testament and that at the time of her doing so she was to the best
of his apprehension of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding and that he
with the other subscribing witnesses to the said will respectively subscribed his name
as witness of thereto at the request of the testatrix and in her presence and all
in the presence of each other.

The witness JW Chew also made oath that he was well acquainted with John Sellman and BF Bird,
who [were] citizens of Anne Arundel County and that they are both now dead, that the will of
Margaret Gardiner to the best of his knowledge and belief was executed at the residence of the
Testatrix in Anne Arundel County, and that he is familiar with the signature of John Sellman
and BF Bird and that their signatures as they appear as witnesses to said will are genuine.
