In the name of God Amen. I, John Carr of Anne Arundel County in the State of Maryland, being in sick and weak in both but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me home do therefore make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say. . .
First and principally, I commit my soul into the hands of the Almighty God and my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix herein after named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid, I advise and bequeath as follows:
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son William Carr, one shilling sterling money and no more of my estate.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Ann Holliday, daughter of my daughter Ann, one shilling sterling and to have no more of my estate.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Lambeth, one negro man called Ned and to have no more of my estate.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my son John Carr, one stone horse called June and my saddle and bridle and ewe and lamb.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Ann Carr, all my leasehold plantation whereon I now live. Also, I give unto my said wife all the rest and residue of my estate be it of what kind or nature sooner, during her natural life or widowhood, but in case my said wife Ann should marry, then my leasehold plantation and the residue of my estate to be equally divided among my children, Nigil, John Carr, Catherine Carr, Mary Carr, Pornelia Carr and Martha Carr, but in case my said wife Ann should not marry, then my leasehold plantation to fall to my son John Carr after my wife's decease, and the residue of my personal estate to be equally divided among my said children, John Carr, Catherine Carr, Mary Carr, Pormelia Carr and Martha Carr after my said wife Ann Carr's decease.
And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my dear wife Ann Carr to whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament, revoking and annulling all former Wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this, and none other to be my last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Fourth day of September Anno Domni One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty One.
