The progenitor of one line of the Sanders family in Hart County (Georiga) was born 1775 and died abt 1865. Tradition says that his father was a man probably of English descent and his mother an Indian woman of the Plumer tribe. In his youth, Elias Sanders came from Maryland to Georgia and married Mary Carter....I have contacted the Cherokee and Shawnee Nations to inquire about the Plumer Tribe. Neither have ever heard of them. There are about a dozen of Elias descendents looking for the parents of Elias but stop right here. This is the only reference we have. During the British march to Washington, D.C in the War of 1812, planters
in Calvert Co., MD suffered major destruction
of their farms. In the fall of 1816, brothers Joseph and Benjamin
FREELAND, John SEDWICK, and Daniel RAWLINGS
explored Indiana looking for suitable new farmland. They chose the Indian
Creek area of Monroe County and another area
in Owen County for the families to settle. The big move was in 1817 and
it included several freed slave families. I would
like to contact any researchers whose families might have accompanied
them or have come later as a result of this
migration. I would like to contact the African- American descendants of
those former slaves as well. One freed slave's name
was Cissie and she became a missionary in Indianapolis. She visited the
Freeland family into the 1850s. My belief is that
several other families may have accompanied this group from Calvert Co.
and possibly Talbot Co. If your family came
from this area of Maryland in the 1815-30 period, I would like to receive
from you information on the immigrant

Without much luck, I have been searching for the father's name of Arthur
Overton Middleton: born Feb. 14, 1838, supposedly in Washington, DC.
He later served as a Captain in the Quartermaster Corp. of the
Confederate Army, and according to data gathered in 1920 from a surviving
associate he enlisted in November 1861 -- Company A, 17th Arkansas
Regiment. He was paroled at Jackson, Miss. in May 1864.
Rumor has it that he might be son or relation of Henry Overton Middleton,
brother of Charles Semmes Middleton who lived in the Silver Springs,
Maryland; and is buried there at the family cemetary on Route 5, across
the road from Andrews Air Force Base.
I got this Maryland data from a Mrs. Florence Overton Middleton in 1980.
In any event, I am trying everything.
A.O.Middleton settled in Crystal Springs & Brookhaven, Miss, and
married a Mary Susana Barnes. He died in 1900, and she in 1930.
