Old Griffith Cemetery AKA Burial Ground on Mac Lowman's Place

Located on the property of Penrhyn S. Watts Jr. at 8187 Telegraph Road in Severn/Odenton area of Anne Arundel County. The graveyard is located in a wooded area of the property near where the Severn Run crosses Telegraph Road.

Sold from the Griffith family to the Lowman family in the late 1800's, and from that time the cemetery was known as the "Burial Ground on Mac Lowman's place."

Additional information from Audrey M. Bagby and Raymond Ringgold, descendants of Charles Robert Griffith, from assorted death certificates, land records, Bible records and other sources:

1 - Basil Thomas Griffith one of the many children of Charles Robert Griffith and his wives. Married Emily Hawkins [3 May 1852-20 Jan. 1929] 22 Nov. 1870 and had four children. Emily Hawkins married 2nd George Durner and is buried with him at Friendship Cemetery on the property of BWI airport.

2 - Mary Ann Sappington Griffith, the daughter of Jonathan and Eleanor Pumphrey Sappington, married Charles Robert Griffith 2 Feb. 1842 in Baltimore City. Charles Robert Griffith is believed to be buried next to her in an unmarked grave according to his death certificate.

3 - Charles Columbus Griffith, was the son of Basil Thomas & Emily Hawkins Griffith. Long account of his death by lightning in the Baltimore Sun newspaper. Married Ahrie Gertrude Stone 15 Aug. 1899, daughter of Daniel Louis Stone and Elizabeth Gorsuch his wife. She is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Brooklyn Park, AA.Co. Md.

4 - George Henry Tase married Ida Priscilla Griffith, dau. of Charles Robert and Mary Ann Sappington Griffith, May 28, 1872. Ida Priscilla Griffith Tase Anderson [11 Feb. 1854-2 June 1936] is buried with second husband Isaac James Anderson in Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.

5 - George Henry Tase, son of Ida Priscilla Griffith & George Henry Tase.

6 - Charlie Henry Tase, son of Ida Priscilla Griffith & George Henry Tase.

7 - Ellwood Doran Anderson, son of Ida Priscilla Griffith & her second husband Isaac James Anderson. She married Isaac J. Anderson 1 Jan. 1881.

8 - Isaiah P. Griffith, son of Charles Robert and Mary Ann Sappington Griffith.

9 - Maggie Laurenah Griffith dau. of Charles Robert & his second wife Alverda Pumphrey Jackson. Alverda Pumphrey [13 Aug 1841-13 July 1931], the dau of Isaiah Pumphrey and his wife Sarah Belt, and the widow of John Thomas Jackson. She is buried in Friendship Cemetery at BWI airport in the plot of her granddaughter Vida May Gardner.

10 - Thomas J. Lowman the brother of John Mac Lowman, the owner of the property on which the the cemetery was located. He owned the property in the early part of the 20th century.
