Second Generation of Sheltons (known to date)

William Shelton and Hannah Yates were the parents of the second known generation of Shelton Acorns. These are their children:

1. William Shelton, Jr. was born in 1762 in Virginia. He died after 1854 in Hamilton County, IL. William Jr. had a ninety-acre land grant dated August 9, 1803 in Christian County KY on the Tradewater River (probably now in Hopkins County KY). He married Rebecca Hogg the daughter of Gideon Hogg.

2. John Shelton (Vonette Shelton-Curtis' line), was born in 1764 in Pittsylvania County VA and died in Rockingham County NC in 1830. He married Sarah Gorman. Click here for more information on the John Shelton line.

3. Ann Shelton was born 1767; her date of death is unknown. She married Henry Hoiler in 1802 and they moved to Henderson County, KY.

4. Agnes Shelton was born 1766 and died in 1855. She married Joseph B. Arnett who was born in 1763 in Maryland and died on Feb. 12, 1852. They married in 1784. Both are buried in Henderson County KY.

5. Elijah Franklin Shelton was born on June 4, 1769 in Pittsylvania County VA and died June 4, 1849 in Decatur County IN. He is buried in Milford Cemetery. Elijah Franklin Shelton married Viola Yates in 1785.

6. Susannah Shelton was born in 1769 in Pittsylvania County, VA and died in 1830 in Henderson County KY. She married a Hammonds.

7. George Washington Shelton was born in 1773 and died after 1844 in Jefferson County IL. He married Elizabeth Farmer June 13, 1803 in Pittsylvania County VA.

8. Elizabeth Shelton was born in 1774 and died after 1850 in Henderson County KY. She married Ephraim Russell in Virginia. Ephraim Russell has a land grant for 200 acres dated Feb 8 1810 on Barren Fork and Tradewater River in Christian County KY. They moved to Jefferson County IL.

9. Josiah Shelton, the grandfather of the Shelton gang, was born in 1777 in Pittsylvania County VA and died after 1860. He is buried in the Shelton Cemetery in Webster County KY, west of Sebree. He married Nancy Ross, the daughter of William Ross, in Pittsylvania County VA Sept 3, 1803. Click here for more information about this line.
