Line of John Shelton, 1764-1830

John Shelton, 1764-1830, was the son of William Shelton and Hannah Yates,, and the brother of Josiah Shelton. He died in Rockingham County, North Carolina as did his wife Sarah Gorman, 1762-1850. They had been married 12 May 1800 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. This couple had five children and raised a grandchild. 1830 will of John Shelton

1. William Spencer Shelton was b 17 Feb 1784 in Rockingham County, NC and died in Johnson County, Illinois before 1856. He married Sarah Orrand, the daughter of John Orrand and Peggy Linton.

2. Josiah Cyrus Shelton was born 21 February 1800 in Rockingham County, NC and died 7 November 1867 in Webster County, KY. He is buried in the Shelton Cemetery in Webster west of Sebree. He married Elizabeth Oran on 22 June 1822 in Pittsylvania County, VA. Elizabeth was supposed to be a full blooded Indian but I have not personally been able to prove this to date. She died 21 February 1895; she may be buried at the Shelton Cemetery or perhaps she returned to Rockingham County, VA.

3. A daughter Shelton - I know nothing about except she married a Mayberry (or Maberry) and left a child that was raised by her parents. The grandchild, John Mayberry, married Nancy Cain and they had a daughter named Sarah Mayberry Shelton

4. Polly "Durant" Shelton was born in 1805; I know nothing of her or even if this is a male or female.
