KY Barney Hankins, the son of Houston Hankins, married Agnes Shelton 8 Oct 1845 Henderson Co KY. According to his son Thomas Marshall Hankins' biography, Barney Hankins was killed at Blues Pond near Morganfield in Union Co KY during his Confederate Civil War service. There may have been another son, Barney Hankins Jr., who was born after his father's death and died shortly thereafter. Barney Hankins is buried at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery and the date of death on his stone reads 2 Aug 1862. Some of the information on this family came from Tina Hall.

NC Agnes Shelton was the daughter of Josiah C. Shelton and Elizabeth Orran household 205/201 of this census. She was born 17 Jun 1828 in Rockingham Co NC. Agnes' sister Sarah, wife of Reuben Anderson Melton, is living at the next household. According to the family genealogy written by Agnes' brother, John Shelton, Agnes and Barney had another child, Lee Wright b. 1862, who died the following year. Agnes Shelton Hankins died 25 Jul 1866, shortly after her husband's death; she, too, is buried at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

KY Martha Jane Hankins, born 12 Sep 1848, married John A. Turpin, son of William Turpin & Catherine Phipps at household 160/158 of this census, about 1863. In the 1870 Webster census, three of Martha's orphaned siblings are living with she and John Turpin. Martha and John had at least three children: William Grant, Decatur A., and D. Belle. Martha died 5 Oct 1937 and is buried at Springdale Cemetery in Sebree.

KY William H. Hankins married Sarah Ashley 15 Jun 1865 Webster Co KY. His uncle, John Shelton, reports William was married to an Ann Oakley. William Hankins, 24, and wife Sarah, 28, are listed in the 1870 Webster census with two children: Elizabeth, 4 and Robert, 2. In the 1880 Webster census, Elizabeth Hankins is further identified as Jamima E., age 12, and Robert as Robbie, age 11.

In his 1942 obituary it says he was a former vice-president of Sebree Deposit Bank. Read his Kerr biography . John Shelton's writings say Thomas Marshall Hankins was also a Webster Co sheriff. Their children were: Nelly May; Mary J.; Florence; Roland; Effie; and Kate. T.M. Hankins died 19 May 1943; he and his first wife are buried at Petersburg Cemetery in Webster Co. T.M. Shelton, Sarah had red hair. He names their children as: James Otho; Norena; Emma J.; Minnie & Luther (both died young); Bessie; Boyd; and Maud E.

Sarah and Reuben Melton had four more children: Thomas, b 4 Feb 1862; Lee (male) b 15 May 1864; Sarah b 13 May 1866, d 21 Mar 1948; and Reuben A. b 13 May 1866, d 1936. Sarah & Reuben A. were twins. Sarah Melton died 5 May 1883.

John and Elizabeth were the parents of 12 children: Buckner; Dixie; Margie; Lucrise; Tildon; John H.; Daniel M. ; James; George A.; Robert; Elisabeth; and Evaline (twins). John W. Melton died 29 Jan 1916; he is buried at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
