VA Williamson Crews was the son of Joseph Crews, Jr., a veteran of the Revolution, and Mary "Polly" Elder, both natives of VA. Joseph Crews Jr died before 1801, probably in Oglethorpe Co GA, where he had taken his family for the Georgia land lottery of 1806. Wm. Crowley, husband of Joseph Crews' widow, appeared as #69 in the Oglethorpe Co list of eligible drawers, claiming one draw for the four orphans of Joseph Crews, deceased. By 1815, William Crowley and his stepson, Williamson Crews, were on the tax list of Henderson Co KY. By 1813 Williamson Crews had married Margery Marks, although their marriage record has never been found. They became the parents of 14 children. Williamson Crews was a Baptist preacher for most of his life. Williamson and Margery died within a week of each other in April 1880; they are buried at Crews Cemetery in Webster Co KY.
