Roy Thomas Melton was the son of William Oscar Melton, 1868-1948, and Nettie May Hankins, 1878-1948. They are both buried at Petersburg Cemetery in Webster County.

He married Lorene Estelle Dixon. Their son Thomas Roy Melton, Jr. is also buried in this cemetery.
