State of Kentucky, Simpson County.

On this 12th day of September 1833 personally appeared before James Herndon, a Justice of the Peace in and for said county, John Hickman, who is a resident of said state and of Logan County, KY., aged 71 years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the Act of Congress passed 7th June 1832.

That in the year 1780, he thinks the first month of the spring, he entered the service of the United States as a private in the War of the Revolution as a drafted soldier of Rowan County, North Carolina, for six months or upwards, that Captain Cole Mountflorence was the commandant of the company to which this affiat belonged, that his company formed a portion of Col. Paulas Barringer's Regiment of Militia....etc.

Certificate of Pension issued the 30 day of December 1833 and W. H. Todd, Present. Inscribed on the Roll of Kentucky at the rate of 40 dollars per annum to begin on the 4th day of March, 1831.

The Grist Mill was attacked and burn to the ground by a band of Unionist in the early 1860's.They felt Elijah supported the southern states separation efforts. Elijah rebuilt the mill a second time but it was again attacked and burned, so he farmed the surrounding land.
