Probably Macon Co Times, Lafayette, TN) - Obituary - James Harrison Gann was born August 10, 1883, and departed this life May 29, 1947, aged 63 years, nine months and 10 days. He was married to Georgia Dyer on July 4, 1913. To this union were born six children, four of whom survive. He professed faith in Christ 29 years ago but had not united with church, but was of the Missionary Baptist persuasion and lived a of service to others. His burning desire seemed to be to help others. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a kind, obliging friend, who will be sadly missed by those who loved him best. We feel that God needed him or He would not have called him away so suddenly and unexpectedly. The dear wife, fond sisters and loving children can go to him some day even though he cannot return to them. We do not mourn as those who have no hope. But we believe that at six thirty o'clock Thursday morning he heard what mortal ears cannot hear-the voice of his Redeemer, saying, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of thy Lord." God holds the key and some day in Heaven we will understand. Harrison is survived by his wile, Mrs Georgia Gann; three daughters, Mrs Charlie Williamson, of Taylorville, Illinois; Mrs. James Butt, of Franklin, Kentucky; and Mrs. J. C. Gregory, also of Franklin; one son, Roy Gann, Franklin; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Tittle, Bowling Green; and Mrs. Nola Sexton, of Lafayette; one half-sister, Mrs Willie Sykes, of Bethpage, and host of more distant relatives. The Rev. Hobart Cook held services from McKendree Methodist church, with burial in McKendree Chapel Cemetery.

Not a single reader of the Favorite, scarcely a man, woman or child, in Simpson county, or for that matter in all this section of the State, but will learn with profound sorrow that the grim Reaper has garnered one more sheaf from along the best loved of men, and that Mr. GERVIS D. GRAINGER is no more. Mr. Grainger grew to manhood in this county and with the very flower, rose and expectancy of our State enlisted in the now-historic ORPHAN BRIGADE, and helped to win for the stars and bars a glory that defeat could not dim. Soon after the war he lost his eyesight and his remaining years were spent in unending night... There was no home too humble for him to visit, no lot to too dark or dreary for his courage and cheerfulness to inspire...
