Letcher County Historical and Genealogical Society

Tab The Mark A Grave Project is an ongoing project of the Letcher County Historical and Genealogical Society (LCHGS). There are literally hundreds of cemeteries located throughout Letcher County and many of them contain graves with missing, broken, or unreadable headstones. The purpose of this project is to mark these graves before those who are buried there are lost and forgotten.
Tab The Mark A Grave Project was begun in 1993. As of March 2002, the Society has marked over 200 graves at a cost of $17,045. To help fund this project, the LCHGS has published several Cemetery Books. Contributions designated for the project are greatly appreciated, as well. If you know of a grave in Letcher County that needs marking, and/or you would like to make a donation, please contact the LCHGS.
