The Hamlin Cemetery is located in Section 8 SE � of Township 2, Range 16. It is on Grasshopper Road at the North edge of Hamlin, Kansas. It was founded in 1876.
From the West edge of Hiawatha, go West on Highway 36 for 4 miles to Goldfinch Road, turn right (north) and go 4 � miles to 280th Street, turn right (east) and go � mile to Grasshopper Road (1st corner at west edge of the town of Hamlin) then turn left (north) and go � mile to cemetery.
In this cemetery there is an above ground vault or mausoleum which was built for the remains of Dr. Robert Patton and his wife Julia. Julia died in 1886 and it is believed that this vault was built prior to her death. Dr. Patton died in 1907. There is no record of just when this vault was built. But the rock for it was hauled from a quary three miles south of Hamlin. The rock on the roof are large in size and were no doubt quite heavy. In later years the vault started decaying and vandals did their share of damage. In about 1935 the W.P.A. buried the bones and it is believed that they were buried in the ground inside the vault.
The Pleasant Hill Cemetery is located on Section 20 SW � of Township 1, Range 18. It is on 300th Street between Foxtail Road and Goldfinch Road; or from the West edge of Hiawatha, go West on Highway 36 for 4 miles to Goldfinch Road, turn right (north) and go 5 � miles to 300th Street, turn left (west) and go � mile to cemetery. The cemetery will be on the north side of road.
There is a large monument at entrance which reads: Pleasant Hill Brethren in Christ Church 1872-1885, settlers from Ontario, Canada & Pennsylvania; 1888 dedication of Meeting House; 1959 Sunday School Addition; 1977 Last Service May 29th. God Our Help In Ages Past; Our Hope for Years To Come.
On the reverse side of this monument it reads: Founding Families: Brubaker, Byer, Eichelberger, Engle, Eyer, Haldeman, Heise, Keller, Kern, Rosenberger, Rotz, Stoner.
The Stumbo Cemetery was established on the Stumbo farm property. It is located in Section 4, Township 1, Range 16. It is on 340th Street between Goldfinch Road & Hazelnut Road. From Highway 73 at the Nebraska Border turn left about 2 miles and the cemetery is � miles into the field on the south side of road.
From Hiawatha go about 10 miles north on Highway 73 to the Nebraska border (340th Street, turn left (west) and go about 2 miles and cemetery is about � miles into field on south side of road.
There is no entrance to this cemetery; you have to park on road and walk back through field to it. It is a very small family cemetery that is not kept up. The only tombstones found were for:
