My gr.grandfather William John Altmann was born on May 18, 1858 in Wash.DC. On census records his parents were born in Germany/Prussia--as often appeared in census records in TX for German people. A marriage was found in DC for Charles Altman to Wilhelmina Gros on Nov. 11 1854. I think this couple may be his parents, which is confusing since he also married in Austin Co., TX, Wilhelmina Gross on 12 Oct. 1879. He came to TX from DC in 1878. Wm.John Altmann was a tinner and worked at Oswald Rehm Tin Shop in New Ulm, Austin Co., TX. I have a picture of my gr.gr.grandmother and on the back she wrote, "to my son William, love mother." The photo was taken at the King Studio, 412 Seventh St.NW, Wash.DC. The year is not noted. I am trying to verify that his parents were the above couple, which I believe could be done by the 1850 census record, but am having trouble knowing where to look. Any help would be most appreciated. God bless and thanks!

Looking for the death date of my great aunt, Cora Dell Scott Davis. Should be sometime between 1952 and 1960 but possibly around 1954 or 1955. I have already spent about $50 for death certificates or searches that are turning up nothing. She was found in the 1948 city directory at 1001 "L" St SE, Apt #3 listed as widow of Rees T. Davis, but was not listed in the 1954 directory. I have also read the microfilms of the Washington Post looking for a death notice or an obituary from Dec. 31, 1955 back to Dec. 31, 1950 with no luck. Did not read 1948 or 49 because I got a "no certificate found" notice from 1948 to 1952. Have no idea where buried either. Found info. on death of her son plus the fact that he had married shortly after his mother's death. So, I now need the marriage date for Marion T. Davis & Victoria Jane Gutch, which was her maiden name, but had previously been married. All deceased. The time frame for this marriage would again be from 1952 through 1960, but probably around 1954 or 55. Hopefully someone can help me locate some kind of records with this info.

I am looking for information on (Captain) Milan Chappell Edson who lived in Washington, DC from 1872 until Oct. 1, 1907. I have no idea what he may have been doing there, only that he moved there from Minn. His wife Mary Lodema Higbee Edson was one of the founders of the Excelsior Literary Club and was a delegate to the First Federation of Women's Clubs and was active in the founding of the Federation. In 1900 Milan C. Edson published a book entitled "Solaris Farm" that dealt with a utopian self-sufficient cooperative farm that employed highly scientific and technical futuristic (for those days) farming methods. He was a farmer prior to going to Washington, and was the son of a farmer, so may have been involved in something to do with agriculture in Washington, DC. He may even have been involved in the political realm. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have regarding places to search for information.
