Georgetown 1834 Directory

Transcribed and contributed by Susan Salus

Transcriber's Notes

  1. The editor warns the reader that the directory is not all-inclusive since some residents refused to provide their names. For ease of reference, the names have been alphabetized in this list. However, in the original, the names appeared in random order ranked only by first letter of last name.
  2. Abbreviations/Errata: The abbreviation "D.H." indicates the "dwelling house" of the person. The abbreviation "Cor" indicates "corner (of)." References to "G. P. Office" could be either "Government Printing" or "Government Pension" office. Finally, "Dunbarton" is not a typo; it's the old name for "Dumbarton" Street.
  3. In 1895, a law was passed requiring that the Georgetown streets be renamed to conform to the naming convention for the rest of the city.
