Dorothy A. Cummings
21 November 1924 -  22 July 2012

Dorothy A. Burk Cummings left this world on Sunday, July 22, 2012 to walk on the streets of Heaven.  She was born November 21, 1924 nead Ida, Texas.  She lived all of her life in Grayson County and attended Ida and Tom Bean public schools.  She graduated from Tom Bean High School in 1942.  She was the second child of Thomas Jefferson Burk and Marguerite Opel Burk.
She married Harvey Lee Cummings September 4, 1943 in Sherman, Texas.  She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend.
She was a woman of strength and everyone knew they could rely on her to help or to be there for them when they called.  Family was always very important to her.  She received great pleasure from researching her family history and sharing that information with her family and others.  She spent years completing the Cummings, Burk and Opel families' histories and in the process gained an extensive knowledge of Grayson County's history.
She worked for Burlington Industries for 8 years.  Then she went to for Johnson & Johnson and was a loyal employee for that company for 25 years.  She enjoyed her time with Johnson & Johnson and all the friendships she formed through the years there.  She often spoke of friends and took pleasure in attending the comapany reunions.
She was a member of Ida Baptist Church and looked forward to attending services when she could.  The love and fellowship she encountered in that congregation was a fond memory for her.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Cummings and wife, Julie; and John Cummings and wife, Cynthia, of Sherman; grandchildren, Jennifer Gann of Princeton; CLee Ann Sayani of Denison; Clayton Cummings of Tom Bean; great-grandchildren, Brad Gann of Sherman;and Lindsey Gann of Princeton.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; her daughter, Linda Joyce Cummings; and one brother, Buster Burk.
A service of Celebration for Dorothy's life was held Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Charles Morris officiating.  She was laid to rest at Cedar Cemetery, Ida, Texas with Clayton Cummings, Gary Cummings, Mike Gann, Mark Gann, Tommy Thompson, and Walter Cole serving as pallbearers.
Donations may be made in Dorothy's honor to Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center St., Sherman, Texas 75090. - - - Waldo Funeral Home
