Uncle Joe Cameron, for 73 years a resident of the Whitewright vicinity, died Monday, April 5th, at his home southwest of town.  Although 79 years old at the time of his death, Mr. Cameron had been hale and hearty until about a year ago, when his health began to decline.  He had been ill for some time previous to the final summons.
Funeral and burial services were held Tuesday afternoon at Vittitoe Cemetery, conducted by Rev. A.E. Major of Whitewright and Rev. Mr. Smith of Tom Bean, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives who had gathered at the graveside to pay their last respects to this good citizen, neighbor and friend.  Pallbearers were C.E. Biggerstaff, J.G. Blanks, R.W. Ball, G.E. Ball, Joe Stephens, and R.C. Wortham.
Joseph Henry Camerson was born in Tennessee January 17, 1847.  He came to Texas with his parents when only six years old, settling in the community where he died.  On April 15, 1866 he married Miss Bettie Reynolds.  They began housekeeping on the farm where Mr. Cameron had lived ever since his marriage.  Six children were born to them, but only one, Miss Ada Cameron, survives.  Mrs. Cameron died June 6, 1909.
Mr. Cameron is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Evaline Simmons of Tom Bean; Mrs. J.W. Pennell of Tom Bean; Mrs. J.T. Roberts of Whitewright; Mrs. Rita Adams of Dallas; and Mrs. Parthena Dodson of Sherman; three brothers, L.W. Cameron of DeKalb; W.P. Cameron of Dallas; and D.C. Cameron of Waureka, Oklahoma.
Uncle Joe Cameron had been a devoted and active member of the Church of Christ for 60 years.  He was highly respected for his citizenship and was loved by all who were well acquainted with him.  He has gone to join his wife and five children in a land of sunshine and joy, but his cheerful face and kindly voice will be sorely missed by those left behind in the vale of sorrow.
