Elaine Marie Murphy was born January 7, 1933, daughter of Claude and Ruth Murphey of York, Nebraska.

After graduating Valedictorian of her class at York High School, she went to work for General Telephone of her hometown.
Through a mutual friend, Elaine began corresponding with a young soldier, Clyde Slawson.  While he was stationed in Okinawa, Elaine and Clyde continued to grow their relationship through their exchange of letters.  Upon his return to the states in 1954, Elaine traveled to Ft. Hood to finally meet the man she had begun to care for over the years of sharing correspondence.  It was there in Temple, Texas on July 3, 1954 that Elaine and Clyde became husband and wife.
Following his military service, the couple settled in Oakdale, Louisiana, where together they managed Slawson Welding.
In 1959 Clyde and Elaine moved to Grayson County to raise their family.  After several moved from Tom Bean, Denison and Howe, the Slawsons finally settled in Tom Bean, Texas.
Elaine spent most of her life as a homemaker and devoted support of Clyde and his ministry.  Upon his passing in 1988, Elaine chose to enroll herself in business classes.  After completing her studies, Elaine went on to be empbloyed by Grayson County Home Hospice where she worked as an administrative clerk until her retirement in 1995.
She spent her retirement years enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, studying her Bible, and being an active member in her church by playing the piano.  She also played for several Grayson and Fannin County churches and nursing homes as long as her health allowed.
Upon her passing on November 21, 2019 at the age of 86, she was a member of Pilot Grove Baptist Church.
Preceding Elaine's death were her husband, son, Claude Slawson; her parents; and brother Lyle Murphey.
Elaine is survived by her children, John Slawson and wife, Tia; and James "Jim" Slawson and Doug Peters; and Roxy Williams and husband Brett; 13 grandchildren: Becky Sanders and husband, Kenny; Bobbie Hander and husband, Mel; Brandon Slawson; Briana Vance and husband, Brandon; Bradi Parkman and husband, Sheldon; Bryant Slawson; Bacel Godwin and wife, Cori; Joshua Godwin and wife Sydney; Blake Slawson and wife Andrea; Garrett Slawson and wife, Caroline; Amanda Osburn and husband, Mark; Scott Williams; Jacob Williams and Stacie Oliver; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marvene Hopp, Janie Slawson and Martha Slawson.
Graveside services for Mrs. Slawson were held Tuesday morning, November 26, 2019 at Vittitoe Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas.  Services were under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.
