John William Phoebus, 87 years old, died at his home west of Whitewright Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock.   He had been
an
invalid since a paralytic stroke 7 years ago.  He was born in 1844 in Lincoln County, Missouri and came to Texas as a young man and settled in Grayson county.  He was married to Miss Minerva George, who died several years ago.
The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at  the Baptist church in Tom Bean, conducted by Rev. O.H. Chumbley of Howe, and Rev. C.C. Merritt, pastor of the Church of Christ of Whitewright.  The burial was held at the Vittitoe Cemetery, west of Kentuckytown.
Mr. Phoebus is survived by 4 children: Mrs. George Hansard, Whitewright; Charles Phoebus, Chillicothe; Cleve and
Clifford
Phoebus, Tom Bean.
