Bennie Cooker
13 April 1911 - 22 September 2007

Bennie Mack Coker, age 96, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 22, 2007, in Sherman, Texas.  Services will be at Earnhart Chapel, Tom Bean, Texas, on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.  Family visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Vittitoe Cemetery in Grayson County.  Rev. Thomas Beall will officiate.  Pallbearers will be retired Dallas Firefighters, Wilkes Bailey, Sonny Daniels, Freddie Caviness, Doyle Morris, Kenny Campbell, Larry Abbott, Kevin Whitsell, and Weldon Bell.
Mr. Coker was born April 13, 1911.  He married Ina Mae Wortham Coker (who preceded him in death on July 15, 2002) on August 23, 1935.  They had a very loving and wonderful life together, and love to talk about the fact that they were childhood sweethearts.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Coker was preceded in death by his parents Sally & Joel Coker; sister, Opalee Powell; brothers, John Coker, Woodrow Coker and Herbert Coker.
Mr. Coker was a Dallas Fireman for over 20 years, and had the distinction of being the oldest living Dallas Fireman at 96 years of age.  He kept up many valuable friendships through the regular visits and luncheons with these former and current firemen.  With his sight failing him in his latter years, he became an avid listener to his favorite sporting events, Christian television, and enjoyed very much listening to his music collection.  Mr. Coker was a member of the Ida Baptist Church (where he became a Christian at a young age.) at the time of his death.  He spent many years as a member of East Sherman Baptist Church.  He loved the Lord with all his heart and this was evident in the life he led.
Survivors are one sister, Irene Clark, Grand Prairie, Texas; nephews, Jay Evans, Grand Prairie, Texas; Don Coker, Sherman, Texas and James Clark, Dallas, Texas; nieces, Debby Henderson, Calgary, Canada; Laura Robinson, State College, PA; Sue Kirby, Grand Prairie, Texas; Nena Coker, Denton, Texas; & Kathy Donoho, Denison, Texas.  He is also survived by numerous great-nephews & nieces and one great-great-niece.  He has two surviving sisters-in-law, Wanda Evans, Dallas, Texas and Betty Wortham, Tom Bean, Texas.
Bennie will be remembered fondly as a loving husband, uncle, and friend to many.  To know Bennie Coker was to love him.
Arrangements are with Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow's Earnheart Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas.
