Dorothy Moser Allen Berry was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2011, surrounded by her most cherished possessions, her family. She was born September 16, 1925, to Alexander L. and Dolly Clountz Moser of Fink, Tx. She attended Georgetown School in Fink, TX; Denison High School and subsequently graduated from La Jolla High School in La Jolla, CA in 1943. She attended Texas State Women's College studying Home Economics and was captain of the college golf team. As a result of her winning the team championship, she was selected to caddy for Byron Nelson in the 1946 Pro-Am.
Dorothy returned to Pottsboro and married her lifetime friend, James F. Allen on January 19, 1947. Dorothy was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherwoman. She was a lifetime member of Woodlawn Country Club and spent many hours on the courses in this area. She was a member of the Texas Woman's Golf Association. Some of her accolades include: multiple Ladies Club Championships at Woodlawn, Katy Golf Course, Denison Rod & Gun Club and Tanglewood Golf Course. She also was runner-up in the 1967 Trans-Mississippi Golf Championship.
Dorothy was recently honored as a Golden Circle recipient of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority representing 50 years of service in that organization. She was an area businesswoman owning and operating the Georgetown Store and Service Station in Fink.
Dorothy is survived by her children: James R. Allen and wife Janie; Joel D. Allen and Cindy all of Pottsboro, TX; Judi Howard and husband Billy of Colbert, OK. Dorothy resided with her granddaughter, Dori Smith and husband, Bart, as well as her great-grandson, Jacob Allen Eggenberg all of Denison. She had six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was widowed upon the death of James Allen in 1965. She subsequently married T. Jack Berry of Denison on February 10, 1972. T. Jack passed away in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, nine sisters, and one grandson, Samuel E. Yates, Jr.
Funeral ervices are scheduled 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Georgetown Baptist Church; 207 Georgetown Road; Pottsboro, TX. Graveside services will follow at Georgetown Cemetery, Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at American Funeral Service; 4312 W. Crawford street, Denison, Texas.
Pallbearers are Billy Howard, Alex Moser, Steve Moser, Richard Coulter, Maurice Coulter, Bart Smith and Jacob Eggenber.
Arrangements are under the direction of American Funeral Service, Denison, Texas.
