Our beloved "Myrt", as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, passed away
Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison of MRSA pneumonia after a gallant fight.
She was born November 23, 1937 in Brownfield to Douglas and Ethel Moser Jones.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, December 3, 2011 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pottsboro with Rev. Ally Perry officiating. Burial was at Georgetown Cemetery
Myrt enjoyed boating, fishing, photography, camping, her animals,The Dallas Cowboys and her soaps. She was a life-long fan of Elvis Presley and had every record he ever recorded. There is a room in her home that is dedicated to Elvis - pictures, memorabilia, etc. One of the great moments in her life was meeting him - that was an event.
She received her teaching degree in English and physical education from North Texas University in Denton. After teaching physical education in Amarillo for three years, she moved to Anaheim, California, where she coached cheerleaders, was advisor for the yearbook and taught drama and speech classes. She ended her teaching career, teaching Junior and Senior English. Picture this, a Texas drawl teaching Mexican-Americans and Vietnamese to speak proper English. Mind boggling isn't it? After 35 years at Savanna High School in Anaheim, Myrt retired - getting back to Texas as fast as she could in 1997, happy as a lark.
She is survived by her life partner of 24 years, JoAnn Duncan of Pottsboro; her sister, Ann Lee Roy Anderson of Pottsboro; five nieces, Ann Marie Lefas, Robbie Youngblood and Brighid Flanagan, all of Pottsboro, Myrna Collins of Big Sandy and Sylvia Carter of Sherman; seven grandnephews and nieces and one great-grandniece. She is also survived by her best friends, Barbara Kane of Anaheim, Calif., Tommy Dean Ball of Junction, Pat Wilson of Pottsboro and Sherie White of Big Sandy; numerous cousins and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Moser Jones; father Douglas Jones; and too many relatives, close friends and pets to mention.
Pallbearers were Elise Collins, Dawn Collins, Amy Van Patten, Philip Lefas, Chris Lefas, Waco Youngblood and Sioux Youngblood.  Honorary pallbearer was Savannah Collins.
In lier of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105-1905 or SPCA of Texas, 6520 FM 720, McKinney, 75070.
