Pottsboro - Evelyn Adene Deaton, 85, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Monday, September 30, 2013 at home surrounded by her family.
Evelyn was born November 2, 1927 in the Cedar Mills community, daughter of George D. and Vera Burns.  She graduated in 1945 from Denison High School.  Evelyn married the love of her life, "Smokey" Deaton, on October 30, 1948.  They were married for 59 years and he preceded her to Heaven in May of 2008.
Evelyn and Smokey traveled and worked all over the United States on construction projects before settling back in Pottsboro in 1959 to raise their family.  Evelyn owned and operated the "Eva-Sue Cafe" in Pottsboro.  She worked in the food industry at Perrin Field, It's BBQ, Lowe's HIghpoint, Texoma Medical Center and Texas Instruments.  Evelyn retired at the age of 79 years of from ARA Food Service at Austin College after 27 years of loyal and dedicated service.
Mrs. Deaton was an avid gardener, excellent cook, faithful friend, and loving mother.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Ronald Deaton and wife, Florette; Kathy Taylor and husband, Rev. Keith Taylor; James Deaton; Adam Deaton; Leah Ashley and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Derek Deaton, Deidra Clark, Darci Zellars, Keith Taylor, Jr., Tammie Billy, Kory Deaton, Kyle Deaton, Meredith Deaton, Austin and Abby Austin; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Clay and Ray Burns; and sister, Geneva Walker, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Evelyn was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church in Denison.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, October 2, 2013 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Taylor officiating.  Services were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn's name to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund.

Harris "Smokey" Deaton, 82, long time Pottsboro resident went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 15, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Deaton was born November 27, 1925 in Tulip, Texas, son of Alfred and Essie Lambert Deaton.  Smokey married Evelyn Burns on October 30, 1948 in Dallas, Texas.  He served his country with pride in the Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Bayfield.  After his service he worked on construction sites all over the U.S. and many in Grayson County.  He retired from North Texas Construction and was a member of Carpenters Local Union for over 60 years.  After retiring from construction, he drove a school bus for 8 years in Pottsboro and 5 years for Kiddie Kampus in Denison.  Smokey was also the caretaker of Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro for over 20 years.
The great joys of his life were his family and friends and his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  He had been a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church since 1958 and had served as Sunday School teacher for the Grace Class for 30 years.  He was a strong and caring father and grandfather.
Mr. Deaton is survived by his wife of 59 years; children, Ron Deaton and wife, Flo, of Sherman; Kathy and husband, Rev. Keith Taylor, of Denison; James Deaton; Adam Deaton; and Leah Ashley and husband, Mark, all of Pottsboro, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Derek Deaton, Deidra Clark, Darci Deaton, Keith Taylor, Jr., Tammie Billy, Kory Deaton, Kyle Deaton, Meredith Deaton, Abbi and Austin Ashley; and 12 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brothers, Moody Deaton of Sherman; and Jack Deaton and wife, Barbara, of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Smokey was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Parks; and beloved infant daughter, Connie Deaton.



Adam Paul Deaton, 55, passed away at home on Friday, December 20, 2019 surrounded by his family and close friends after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes.
Adam was born on November 10, 1964 in Denison, Texas, 11 minutes before his twin sister, Leah.  Adam was the youngest son of Smokey and Evelyn Burris Deaton.  Adam was a 1983 graduate of Pottsboro High School where he was a football stand-out, Class Vice-President, and Mr. PHS.  Adam worked in the construction and concrete industry for many years prior to working for TXU/Atmos Energy.  Adam was very talented and passionate about writing songs,singing and playing his guitar.
Adam was predeceased by his parents; and his grandparents.
Adam leaves behind his only child, Meredith and her husband, Josh Waters, of Castle Rock, Colorado and 3 precious grandchildren, Brynn, Wyatt and Rhett Adam.  Mr. Deaton is also survived by his brothers, Ron and Jamie; sisters, Kathy Taylor and Leah Ashley; girlfriend, Holly Gibson; along with a host of extended family and lifelong friends.
A private burial was held Monday, December 23, 2019.  A Celebration of Life was held Saturday morning, December 28, 2019 at Southside Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ at an early age.  His brother-in-law, Rev. Keith Taylor and nephew, Keith Taylor, Jr. officiated.  
Memorials may be made to the church or Georgetown Cemetery Association.
