DENISON - Wayne Smithson, 76, was given rest from his courageous fifteen year battle against cancer.
Wayne was born July 13, 1934 in Castro County, Texas the son of Ben and Maude (McCoy) Smithson.
After his college graduation from Fresno State, he joined the Marine Corps and proudly served his country for ten years and fought and survived the Vietnam War.
In 1962, he married Carolyn Carter in California and moved to Denison in 1970. He worked for Pillsbury until 1987, then joined Industrial Fumagants and relocated to Southern California and Utah. He moved back to Texas in 2005. Wayne has family and friends all over the country and he has touched many lives and made an impression on everyone he met. After so many years of hard work and taking care of others, we are glad that he is at rest and peace with our Lord. Wayne was a Dad, Grandfather, brother, friend, hero and an example of grace under fire to everyone who knew him. Wayne will never be forgotten, always missed and remembered with fondness by his family and friends for his love and antics.
Mr. Smithson is survived by his beloved family; four daughters, Sonie Fisher of Allen, Marlina Smithson of Plano, Cheryl Osbourn of Pottsboro, and Stephanie Hulon of McKinney; and four grandchildren, John Fisher, Craig Fisher, Josey Osbourn and Olivia Osbourn; four brothers, Rayphard Smithson, Clinton C. Smithson, Donald Shelton and Donald Gene Smithson; and his dear friend, Helen Graf of California.
