David "Pinky" Shires a resident of Bokchito, Oklahoma passed from this life on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the age of 79.
He was born in Platter, Oklahoma to Glen Wilson and Georgia Doretha (Peppers) Shires on August 7, 1933. David married Peggy Barnard on March 13, 1954 in Bonham.
Pinky served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a carpenter by trade. Pinky enjoyed riding his horses and was a member of the Colbert Riding Club. He was often found attending rodeos and trail riding. Pinky was a cowboy whose greatest pleasure was caring for his cattle, and spending time with his horse and mules. He enjoyed watching old John Wayne movies.
Mr. Shires is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; daughters, Dorothy Diane Valentin and husband Tony of Sherman, Rebecca Lynn Dupree and husband Ricky of Colbert, Okla., Dorothy Lynn Key and husband Sam of Colbert, Okla., and Alice Kay Weger of Durant, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Becky Anne Shires of Calera, Okla.; sons, Donald Joe Shires of Colbert, Okla., and Steven Danny Shires and wife Deborah of Calera, Okla.; sisters, Ora Della Woods of Denison, Lynda Kay Fulce of Denison, and Janell Amos of Fayette, Mo. brothers, James Galen Shires of Denison, and Gayle Eugene Shires of Denison; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shires was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Georgia Shires; son, Glenn David Shires; grandparents, Della and George Peppers and Joe and Alice Shires; mother and father in law, Dan and Julie Barnard.
Family hour was from 7 -8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Okla.
A Funeral Service in his honor will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Blue Baptist Church in Blue, Oklahoma with Rev. Norman Ford officiating.
Interment will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro. Serving as pallbearers will be Chance Shires, Jason Weger, Nate Burkhalter, Steve Mitchell, Daniel Key and Troy Shires.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Lynn Key, Glenn Kreed James Shires, Cody Shires, Tyler Nelson, Spencer Nelson, Carter Nelson, Bentley Bellew, A.J. Jones, Austin Jones, Aries Jones, Leon Nelson, Tyler Shires, Wyatt Ables, Colton Walker, Parker Weger, Drew Hawk, and Landon McCrary.

Services are under the direction of Holmes~Coffey~Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Okla.
