BOND OF McCLURE ON LIQUOR CHARGE PLACED AT $1,500
Witness Says He Sold Whiskey to Carl Nix, Who Died

Sherman, February 20 - Burt McClure was bound over to the grand jury under a bond set at $1,500 by Justice J.N. Phillips following an examining trial Thursday afternoon on the charge of selling intoxicating liquor, part of which is alleged to have been sold to Carl Nix on the night he died, Friday, February 13.
George Goode, 31, Robert Curtis, 19, and Everett Goode, 23, testified at the trial that they were with Nix when the alleged sale was made.
George Goode stated from the stand that he arrived at a dance held on that night at Cleve Miller's place, near Preston, between 8 and 9 o'clock Friday night and that he mentioned buying whiskey.  He said he made arrangements to purchase whiskey before leaving the dance about 10 o'clock, and that he left the Miller place in a car driven by Nix, accompanied by Everett Goode, George Boggs, Robert Curtiss and Burt McClure.
The party drove to the McClure place where they stopped and Burt McClure left the car and returned shortly with a half-gallon jar of corn whiskey, Goode stated.  McClure handed the jar to Goode and received in exchange a $5 bill, he testified.
All of the boys drank from the jar, including McClure, on the road back to the dance, Goode said.
Robert Curtiss corroborated the statements of George Goode when placed on the stand, and testified that he did not believe any of the men had had a drink prior to drinking the alleged McClure whiskey and that he did no smell any liquor while on the way to the McClure place.
Everett Goode made statements similar to those of the men testifying before him and corroborated those made by them.
No evidence was introduced disclosing the action of Carl Nix after the party returned to the dance about 10:30.
Burt McClure had not made bond this morning and was being held in the county jail pending approval of a bond.
