DENISON - Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro for Edith Tucker, who passed into her eternal home on Tuesday morning, August 24, 2010 at Hilltop Haven.  Bobby Hancock, pastor of Georgetown Baptist Church will officiate.  Family night will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St. in Denison.
Edith was born January 7, 1921 to Joe and Minnie Cook of Pottsboro.  After completing seven years of schooling, she married Mervyn H. Christman, son of Alex and Roxie Christman of the Georgetown area in 1935.  Within the following 14 years, seven children were born to them, 3 girls and 4 boys.  While Edith lived a full life of 89 years, all of her children are still living.
She was employed as a seamstress with Levi-Strauss in Denison for many years.  After 20 years of marriage, her husband deserted her and six children, still at home.   With little schooling, limited skills, no money or transportation, and a broken heart, she faced the greatest challenge of her life.  But what she did have was a deep faith in the promises of God, a tireless work ethic, and supportive parents to back her up.  After finishing her day job at Levi's, she worked the night shift as a nurse's aide at Madonna Hospital.  And, with her sewing skills, she handmade many of our clothes from scraps she would get from Levi's and flour sacks.  Loving family friends from church helped many times, at just the right time, when Mama's resources ran too short, and sacks and sacks of food mysteriously and gloriously appeared on our front porch.  The greatest comfort in her passing into the loving arms of our Lord is knowing that now there is a quiet rest awaiting her, something she never experienced during her long, difficult stay here on earth.  Welcome home, Mama!
She is survived by 3 daughters: Helen Monday and husband Otis of Crossett, Ark., Donna Brewer and husband Alvin of Mena, Ark., Glenda Renfro and husband Mike  of Versailles, Mo.; four sons, Bobby Christman of Pottsboro, Jim Christman of Denison, Tom Christman and wife Adelle of Denison, and Jackie Christman and wife Ruth of Lewisville; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchilren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Mervyn Christman and Bill Tucker; brothers Billy and Buddy Cook and five grandchildren; Jeremy Wayne Christman, Tommy Christman, Jr., Felicia Felts, Gary Reed and Karen Cook.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hilltop Haven for the wonderful, loving care they provided our Mom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you send donations to Hilltop Haven, P.O. Box 39, Gunter, Texas 75058.  Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St., Denison, Texas 75020
