Funeral services for Mrs. Ida May Maughs, 70 years of age, pioneer Denison woman who was instantly killed when struck by the northbound Katy Texas Special at the Day street and Lamar avenue crossing Sunday evening, were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock with Rev. B.J. Deeney officiating.  Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with Short-Murray, funeral directors, in charge  of arrangements.  C.J. Corcoran, J.E. Williams, W.F. Weaver, T.R. Foley, Frank Klinkman and Godfrey Dial were pallbearers.
After spending Sunday with her daughter, Mrs. Daisy Hastings, 210 West Gandy street, Mrs. Maughs was returning to her home, 808 South Lamar avenue, when she was struck by the passenger train while crossing the tracks only 2 doors from her home.

Gertrude Maughs

Miss Gertrude Maughs, 76, retried Texas and Pacific Railroad employee, died Wednesday at Denison Manor after a 5-year illness.  Funeral was held Friday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas Zachry officiating.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.  Rosary was said tonight at 7:30 in Johnson-Moore chapel.
Born in St. Louis, Miss Maughs moved to Denison when 3 years old  and attended St. Xavier's and Denison High schools.  One of her first jobs was at the State National Bank, and she was the only woman employed there at that time.  She later worked for the Barnhart Mercantile Co. and still later moved to Dallas where she spent 20 years in the Southwestern Bell Telephone treasurer's office. Then she moved to the T&P treasurer's office in the same city, working there 32 years before her retirement in 1952 when she returned to Denison to live. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Miss Maughs made her home with her sister, Mrs. Daisy Hastings of 118 West Gandy.
Other survivors include another sister, Mrs. Ida Cremie of...Beach, Florida, and a brother, Phillip C. May of Denison.
