WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH
Miss Mollie Dugan, who resided with her brother Engineer M.D. Dugan, near the waterworks plant, lost her life in the destruction by fire of her home Saturday evening.  Mr. Dugan and his wife were absent at the time in Denison.  The fire department was notified but the distance was so great that when they arrived the building was a mass of burning cinders.  The remains of Miss Dugan were found in the hallway near the kitchen, and the body was charred and burned beyond recognition.
There are a number of opinions as to the origin of the fire and the cause of the death of Miss Dugan, quite a number entertaining the belief that the old lady was murdered and the house burned to cover the crime.  This theory is strengthened by the fact that three small pocket-books which were kept in Miss Dugan's trunk were found on the premises and a gold watch is also missing.  Others entertain the belief that Miss Dugan was lighting the gasoline stove which, it is rumored, was not in good condition, and it exploded; that her garments took fire from the burning oil, and that she was not able to escape from the house.
The officers, who have thoroughly investigated the situation, do not know what to think and to some it looks like murder.  They are still at work on the case.  Mr. Dugan thinks his sister was the victim of foul play.
The funeral of Miss Dugan took place Wednesday morning from St. Joseph's Church.
