DIED WHILE READING
Sudden Death of an Old Resident of Denison
About ten o'clock Monday morning H.H. Schemmel died at his residence, 412 East Sheppard street, in this city.
He had returned to his home from his duties, eaten his breakfast and sat down to read the morning papers.  A short time afterwards he was found dead by one of the family, still holding the paper in his nerveless hands.  Mr. Schemmel was supposed to be in perfect health and his death was a shock to his family and a large number of friends.  Heart failure is given as the cause of death.
Deceased had been a resident of Denison for twenty-five years, employed by the railway company during the time.  He was sixty-two years of age and leaves a wife and several grown children to mourn his loss, besides a wide circle of friends in the community.  He was a communicant of the Catholic church and a member of the Catholic Knights.
Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock and the remains interred in Calvary cemetery.
The Gazetteer extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and hundreds of mourning friends.

Since the above was written, a few additional facts concerning the life of Mr. Schemmel have been communicated to the Gazetteer.
For a number of years the deceased was a prominent factor of Dyersville, Iowa, having been in business at that place until 1881, coming that year to Palestine, where he lived for seven years, from which place he moved to Denison.
