SUDDEN DEATH
Mrs. J.T. Irvin Stricken Down Instantly by Heart Disease

Only of those cases of sudden  death with which all communities are occasionally visited startled this city Tuesday morning.  Mrs. J.T. Irvin had been out riding Monday evening, played and sang for a long time after returning home and retired about 9:30 o'clock apparently as well as usual.  She had been troubled for a few days before with what she thought was rheumatism in the chest, and Mr. Irvin returning home from his watch at Libby's saloon about 1 o'clock, and finding her awake inquired how she felt.  She stated that she was feeling well and after some little conversation about the children, one of whom had been ill that day, Mr. Irvin retired.  About 2:30 a.m. Mr. Irvin was awakened by his wife with the complaint that she had a desperate pain over her heart, and he thinking it was the rheumatism again, got up and rubbed the affected region with camphor.  Then Mrs. Irvin, complaining of the closeness of the room, got up and sat in the window a short time.  Here she was taken with a sick spell which resulted in nausea and vomiting, after which the lady, claiming that she felt better, went back to bed begging her husband to do the same.  Mr. Irvin lay down mand as he reclined upon his elbow looking at his wife, who had apparently fallen asleep, he was struck by the peculiar and unnatural manner of her respiration.   He rose up in bed and spoke to her.  She had stopped breathing.  He seized her by the arms and tried to rouse her, but she was motionless in the embrace of death.  A doctor was summoned immediately, but an examination only served to establish the fact that life was indeed extinct.  Heart disease was the undoubted cause of death.
Mrs. Irvin was a lady of most estimable personal qualities, and enjoyed, besides the earnest affection of a devoted husband, the sincere esteem and love of a wide circle of friends.  She was but 27 years of age, and the sad, sad pity of her untimely taking off strikes a responsive chord in the hearts of all who are constituted with a capacity to feel.
She leaves behind her deeply afflicted husband, a little girl  4 years of age and a little baby boy of 7 months.  The Gazetteer tenders its sincere sympathy, and that of this entire community.
The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon from the Catholic church, the cortege being the largest seen in the city for many months.  The interment took place at the Catholic cemetery, Rev. Father Logue administering the last sad rites of the church.
