SHERMAN BOY KILLED IN ACTION IN FRANCE
Sherman, June 3 - Charles C. Simmons of Sherman is in receipt of a message from the war department advising him of the death of his son, Charles R. Simmons, who died from wounds received while fighting with the American Army in France.  Before enlisting in the Army the young man was connected with local drug stores as a soda dispenser, and was one of the first to volunteer for service after war with Germany was declared.  He was a member of Co. I, 28th Infantry and sailed for France in June of last year.
He is survived by his father and two sisters.  The sisters are: Mrs. Jessie Pratt of Kansas City and Miss Kate Simmons, who resides at the family home in Sherman.  He is the first Sherman boy to be killed in action on the battlefield.  Several, however, have been lost on ships and died at the cantonment
