Johnny Ray Jennings was born September 15, 1950 at Monahans, Texas to Robert Lee Jennings and Vaun Dean Yeilding Jennings. He died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the age of 59 at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, Texas.
Johnny's passion in life was music. It was a love that was a part of all areas of his life. He performed as a pianist and a tenor with many different people and organizations. He performed in Houston, New York, New Jersey, living and touring for a brief time in Europe. He was the founder of Opera in the Heights in Houston. He also served in a number of Churches as Minister of Music, a few of which are Lake Jackson UMC, Jersey Village Baptist Church in Houston, and most recently First United Methodist Church in Whitewright. 
He was also passionate in sharing his love of music with other people by teaching private voice and piano lessons. He also taught and served as the Choir Director of Conroe High School. With the Conroe High School Choir he had the joy of touring and directing their performances in Europe. He was a proud member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity for musical students. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Whitewright.
He is survived by mother, Vaun Dean Jennings of Whitewright; brother, Fred Jennings and his wife Suzanne of Whitewright; niece, Angie Jennings of Whitewright; 3 great-nieces, Alexis, Jayden, and Clara; host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Jennings.
Funeral Services were held 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 28, 2010 at First United Methodist Church, Whitewright, Texas with Rev. Eric Rothe and Rev. Doyle Henderson officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. Pallbearers were Scott Mallen, Ken Phillips, Erik Wood, John Porter, Darold Meyer, Bobby Worthy, and Greg Almond, with Men of the First United Methodist Church serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
The family received friends during a visitation on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Whitewright, Texas. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Foundation or to Davita Kidney Awareness Foundation. Arrangements were with Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas.
