    This war saw some 26 thousand plus men enlist. Govenor Meigs was ordered by President Madison to assemble a militia in 1812 and it was organized in Dayton, OH. Their destination would be Detroit, MI.

    The Civil War was the bloodiest in our nation's history. We lost over a half million people from various ethnic and financial backgrounds. Gettysburg was the first National Cemetery dedicated by Abraham Lincoln on November 19, 1863 when he delivered his Gettysburg Address.

  • Spanish American War

    - April 25, 1898 to August 12, 1898.
    This war began with an unexplained sinking of the USS Maine, an American battleship, in Havanna, Cuba's harbor. In retaliation US Commodore George Dewey directed the destruction of the Spanish Fleet in Manila Bay Phillipines on May 1. On July 17, Spanish Carribean Fleet led by Admiral Pascual Cervera, surrenedured to US General Shafter after his fleet was totally destoyed, some ships sinking and others beached to burn. The conflict ended with Spain's signature of the Treaty of Paris whereby Spain renounced all claims to Cuba and relinquished Guam and Puerto Rico to the US.
