Master Name Index

The cemeteries listed below have been read, indexed and archived by WCCPS members. This list includes the names on every readable stone and the names of any person known to be buried in Wayne County Cemeteries.

If the cemetery of interest is not listed below, it has not yet been completed. Please have patience – our members are working hard to complete this huge task. Also, check our cemetery name cross reference list, since many cemeteries are known by different names.

This index states the surname, the given name, the abbreviated name of the cemetery, the section, the row number and in some cases where the row is extremely long a numerical count of the headstones. More than one similar name listed in a row indicates that there is more than one person buried in that row with the same name or there are duplicated headstones. If a section number is not given, the cemetery is too small to be divided into sections. These section and row numbers relate only to WCCPS works and most likely do not match the private cemetery association’s records.

A map will be included in our books of the larger cemeteries, otherwise the introductory header for the cemetery will explain how we read the rows – generally from left to right while progressing from the front to the rear.

Individuals who are buried without a headstone will be indexed as "no stone" or NS. These individuals may or may not be found in the WCCPS Row-by-Row listing, but they will certainly be found in the WCCPS alphabetical listing.

The listing "prob" means that no stone was found, but a good probability exists that the burial was made in the cemetery.

A cemetery key such as asoc/frede infers that the body was removed from the first cemetery and transferred to the second.

PF after the cemetery abbreviation indicates that the burial was made in the Potter’s Field (indigent) section of the cemetery.

Ceno or Cenotaph means that a marker exists in the cemetery, but the burial was made elsewhere.

All the names in the row by row listings are spelled as found on the headstone, so it is advisable to look under all imaginable spellings of your name.
