Lake County Army Enlistees in World War II

Lake County, Ohio can be proud of its service of our country. A new searchable database shows 3,614 Regular Army men and women and 110 Reserve Army enlistees who lived in Lake County.

The National Archives is attempting to recreate the records for the World War II enlisted men and women. There is a web site that is searchable which gives name, year of birth, county of residence, place and date of enlistment, rank, branch of service, term of enlistment, year and state of birth, race, education, previous occupation, marital status and record source.

It can be found from http://aad.archives.gov/aad/series-description.jsp?s=3360 if you look for "World War, 1939-1945" records in the subject category. This link will take you to the search box for these records. Watch for "World War II Army Enlistment Records."

From this page, click on the pink SELECT button.
Select ARMY or ARMY RESERVE button.
In the search box, enter the name as Lastname Firstname MI
Although not necessary, the state code for Ohio is 53 and Lake County's code is 085 in case of a very common name.
Click SEARCH.
Click in the little box under SELECT RECORD by the name you want.
Click on SHOW SELECTED RECORDS.

There is a printer friendly version.

This database is now on Ancestry.com.
