Ogilvie, James ~ Wednesday, May 3, 2000. A Memorial Mass will be held for James Philip Ogilvie, 54, today, May 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville. Mr. Ogilvie died on April 27 at his home in Carson City. He was born in Bakersfield, Calif., on Dec. 13, 1945, to Oscar and Evelyn Harney Ogilvie. In 1977, he graduated from the University of California at Bakersfield. He worked for a time for the Kern County Fire Department in Bakersfield as supervisor on an inmate fire crew. He also worked for the U.S. Forest Service in the Sequoia, Eldorado, Angeles and Toiyabe national forests. During his career with the government, Mr. Ogilvie worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a smoke jumper in Alaska and superintendent of the Silver State Hot Shot crew in Carson City and the Chilao Hot Shot crew, as well as a member of the Fulton Hot Shot crew. He moved to Carson City in 1990 from the Chilao Ranger Station, where he lived for 10 years. Mr. Ogilvie was a member and supporter of Duck's Unlimited. He is survived by his wife Joan Ogilvie of Carson City; daughter Adriane Ogilvie of Gardnerville and son Tom Ogilvie of Carson City; brothers Ron Ogilvie of Reno and Gary Ogilvie of Bakersfield and sister Donna Pinheiro of Tehachapi, Calif.; and 21 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

O'Sullivan, Ryan ~ September 22, 1999. A memorial service for Ryan Sean O'Sullivan, 15, will be held today, Sept. 22, at 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 1101 Dresslerville Rd., Gardnerville Ranchos. Ryan died on Sept. 17 from complications of asthma. He was born on June 4, 1984, to John and Patty O'Sullivan. Ryan was a sophomore at Douglas High School and was co-owner, with his brother Dan, of Ballistic Board Supply in Gardnerville. A Skate Jam to celebrate Ryan's life will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, in the parking lot of Calvary Chapel from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Ryan is survived by his parents; brother Dan and sister Pam Stephens and her husband Jeff, sister Shannon; grandparents John O'Sullivan, Eileen O'Sullivan, Gen Collins; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Charles Collins.

Ott, Jacky ~ Saturday, January 15, 2000. A graveside service with full military honors will be held for Jacky Edward Ott, 60, on Friday, Jan. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Ott, a resident of Wellington for more than six years, died on Jan. 8 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Kansas on Jan. 18, 1939, to Lawrence and Lucille Warrick Ott. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Formerly of El Paso, Texas, Mr. Ott worked as a radar operator and specialist for the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by his father and is survived by his wife Geraldine Ott of Wellington; mother Lucille Ott of Hutchison, Kan.; sons Jacky E. Ott of El Paso, Timothy Lee Ott of Streetman, Texas, and James Lawrence Ott of Richmond, Va.; brother Donald Ott of Corpus Christi, Texas, and sister Della Ott of Pomona, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren.

Owens, Mary ~ Saturday, February 12, 2000. A Celebration of Life will be held for Mary Lorene Owens, 78, on Monday, Feb. 14, at 3:30 p.m. at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Pastor Pete Nelson will preside. Mrs. Owens died on Feb. 8 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. She was born in Wichita, Kan., on May 9, 1921 to Harry and Cynthia Barnett-Hunsudker Knipe. A Gardnerville resident for seven years, coming from Reno, Mrs. Owens was a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and talking to people. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Logan Owens, who died in Sparks in 1972; son John L. Owens, who died in San Diego, Calif., in 1946; brothers Richard and Billy Knipe; and sisters Ruth Bush and Barbara June Hartman. Survivors include her daughters Cathy A. Sargent and Vickie L. Cunningham, both of Gardnerville; brother Cecil W. Knipe, who resides in California; grandchildren Marcie, Dena, Christopher and Matthew; and great-grandchildren Tyler and Jacob.
