Kane, Thomas J. ~ Saturday, September 2, 2000. Former area resident Thomas J. Kane, 85, who lived in the Sierra Nevada region for 20 years, died Aug. 28 in Spokane, Wash. He was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Lindhurst, N.J., to Frank and Mary Kane. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, N.J., in 1933. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and earned the American Service Medal and European, African, Middle Eastern and Good Conduct medals. He married Dorothy Wilson Feb. 9, 1946, in York, Penn. He retired after 38 years from Equi-Fax and liked gardening, reading, and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; son Michael Kane of Ventura, Calif., daughter Judith Herling of Spokane.; brother Howard Kane of Foxborough, Mass; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held yesterday at Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane, and inurnment will be at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.

Kelly, Theresa ~ November 13, 1999. A memorial service for Theresa A. Kelly, 80, will be held today, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Kimmerling Road in Gardnerville. Mrs. Kelly died on Nov. 9 at Lifecare Center in Reno. She was born in New York, N.Y., on April 13, 1919, to Frank and Emma Sperling Ford. Mrs. Kelly was a resident of Gardnerville for 10 years, coming from Midland, Texas. She enjoyed doing things for senior citizens and loved doing crafts and chair recaning. Predeceasing her were her parents, a sister, one grandchild and her husband Robert B. Kelly, who died in January 1989 in Gardnerville.Surviving are sons Richard Kelly of Gardnerville and Michael Kelly of Reno and daughters Judy Ostrem of Gardnerville and Patricia Ben of Las Vegas; sister Lydia Kubiak of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Kempley, Roy ~ December 11, 1999. Roy Kempley, 94, died at Carson-Tahoe Hospital on Dec. 7. A private service and burial will be held at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden. Mr. Kempley was born on Nov. 10, 1905, in Kansas City, Kan. to Brazele and Rosa Heidinger Kempley. On Feb. 28, 1945, he married Margaret M. Zwers. He was a contractor in the construction business and enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to the shooting range. He resided in Minden since 1989, coming from Chester, Calif. Mr. Kempley is survived by his wife Margaret, son Tom of Reno and two grandchildren.

Kepler, Erma ~ Wednesday, October 4, 2000. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Antelope Valley Cemetery in Antelope Valley, Calif., for Erma Martina Kepler, 95, a resident of Coleville, Calif. Mrs. Kepler died Monday at her home. She was born April 30, 1905. She was a member of the Antelope Valley Women's Club and enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen and sister Eula Mae Coulter. Survivors include son R. Glen Kepler Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M., and daughters Beverly A. Record of Eckert, Colo. and Erma J. Thomas of Walker, Calif. The Rev. Chuck Evans of Walker Baptist Church will preside at the funeral, and interment will be held at the cemetery following the service.

King, William ~ February 16, 2000. A memorial service for William Ellis King, 69, was held on Feb. 12 at Topaz Ranch Estates Baptist Church. Mr. King died on Feb. 9 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. He was born on Aug. 13, 1930, in Sperry, Okla., to Claude and Martha Shelton King. He was a retired contractor and a resident of Wellington. Surviving are his wife Gloria King of Wellington; daughters Antoinette King of Salt lake City, Utah, Patricia Powers of Chino Hills, Calif., Kathryn (Jon) Underwood of Frederic, Wisc., and sons William Dennis of Salem, Ore., and Michael Dennis of Austin, Texas; brothers Paul (Peggy) King of Nevada, John (Vida) King of California, Bob (Bonnie) King of Oklahoma and sisters Dolly (Gene) Barnhart of Oklahoma, Peggy Hutton of Florida, Mary Buterack of California and Norma (Herb) Studer of Florida; grandchildren Shelia, Virginia, David, Dory, Christina, Cassondra, Sara Ann and Joshua; and three great-grandchildren.

King, William Ellis ~ Saturday, February 12, 2000. A memorial service for William Ellis King, 69, a resident of Wellington, will be held at the Topaz Ranch Estates Baptist Church today at 2 p.m. Mr. King died suddenly of an illness at Washoe Medical Center in Reno Feb. 9.He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Wellington.

Kolbus, Martha ~ Friday, February 25, 2000. Martha Jane Kolbus, 73, died at her home in Gardnerville on Feb. 21. She was born on June 4, 1926, in Lincoln, Ark., to Jacob and Sarah Beach Curtis. Mrs. Kolbus was a Gardnerville resident for 10 years, coming from San Ramon, Calif., where she was a member of the Baptist Church. She and her husband Dick, who died in Concord, Calif., in 1982, owned a restaurant in Jack London Square in Oakland, Calif. Mrs. Kolbus enjoyed cooking, reading and gardening. She is survived by sons Stan A. Kolbus of Gardnerville, Paul L. Kolbus of Mesquite, Nev., and James R. Kolbus of Mississippi; brother Walt Curtis of Washington and sister Patricia Anderson of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.,; and six grandchildren.

Kronenberg, Shawn ~ Friday, May 19, 2000. A memorial mass for Shawn Michael Kronenberg, 18, will be held on Monday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville. Father Bill Nadeau will officiate. Shawn died on May 18 in Woodfords, Calif., the victim of a rock slide, while hiking. He was born on Sept. 14, 1981, in Las Vegas and was adopted in 1984 by the Kronenberg family. He attended C.C. Meneley Elementary School, Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and graduated from Douglas High School in June 1999. Shawn worked at Sharkey's, busing and cooking. He had plans to attend Western Nevada Community College next semester to pursue a fish-and-game career. He loved fishing, snowboarding, hunting, hiking, camping, four-wheeling and just being outdoors. Growing up, he enjoyed baseball and soccer. Surviving are parents Bill and Vicky Kronenberg, sister Chelsea and brother Ryan, grandparents Juanita and Ed Edmonds of Sun City, Ariz., aunt Pam, uncle Pete, cousin Jill and cousin Matt Kronenberg of Gardnerville, aunt and uncle Pal and Ron Wright of Hiawatha, Kan., and other relatives who reside in Napa, Calif., the Bay area and Colorado. Shawn's grandparents Coralie and Vincent Kronenberg preceded him in death.
