Dabovich, Elizabeth ~ Wednesday, February 23, 2000. A memorial service for Elizabeth "Betty" Dabovich, 74, will be held on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Mrs. Dabovich died on Feb. 19 at her Gardnerville home. She was born on March 30, 1925, to Dan and Edith Clarke Washburn in Oakland, Calif., and was married there to William George Dabovich Sr. on Nov. 28, 1943. Mrs. Dabovich had been a bookkeeper and was a resident of Gardnerville for 15 years, coming from Lake Tahoe, Calif. She was known to be a warm and caring person, who loved to garden. Predeceasing Mrs. Dabovich was her father. Survivors include her mother Edith Washburn of Goldendale, Wash.; husband William George Dabovich Sr. of Gardnerville; son William Dabovich II and daughter Diana Walcom, both of Gardnerville; sister Vivian Weddle of Goldendale; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Davies, John ~ Saturday, November 20, 1999. A mass was held yesterday, Nov. 19, for John T. Davies at the U.S. Marine Base Chapel in Pickel Meadow, Bridgeport, Calif. Mr. Davies died on Nov. 14 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Reno at the age of 77. He was born in Scranton, Pa., on Jan. 3, 1922, to Emlyn and Margaret Thomas Davies. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and retired as a security specialist working for the U.S. government in the defense contracts department. Mr. Davies had resided in the Bay area, in Coleville, Calif., and in Reno for the last six months. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AmVets. Survivors include his wife Myrt Davies of Reno; daughters Carole Harris of Fremont, Calif., and Pat Taylor of Oakland, Calif., and son John Davies of Mt. View, Calif.; three grandchildren; and brothers and sisters residing in the East.

Dedmon, Armon ~ Saturday, October 28, 2000. Armon Jacques Dedmon, 70, died Oct. 23 at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. He was born in Elk City, Okla., on July 24, 1930. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1955 in the 11th Airborne. In 1959, he graduated from Middle Tennessee State Teacher's College and was a 6th grade teacher for 5 years in Nashville, Tenn., and for 25 years in Camarillo, Calif. Mr. Dedmon is survived by his wife Alene Elizabeth Dedmon of Gardnerville; son Adam J. Dedmon of Gardnerville and daughter Tracey Halfhill of Vicksburg, Miss.; and two grandchildren.

DeHaven, Dolores ~ Saturday, January 29, 2000. Mrs. De Haven died on Jan. 22 at Carson Convalescent Center in Carson City. She was born in Mason, Nev., on April 18, 1917, to Herbert and Phoebe Carpenter Hillygus. She was a Gardnerville resident for 25 years, coming from Carson City. Mrs. De Haven had managed Hetchako Mining in Happy Camp, Calif., for six years, was a bartender and hostess at Pinenut Lodge for four years and was in charge of public relations for Todd Russell Productions and Entertainment Agency in Alaska for 10 years. She also licensed and ran Starlight Ranch in Dayton for 10 years and was a ranch cook for Dangberg Ranch in Gardnerville for five years. She enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling, reading and the company of good friends. Predeceasing Mrs. De Haven were her husband Ben Baber, who died in 1968 in Carson City, her daughter La Verne Fox, three brothers and two sisters. Surviving are her son Todd Russell of Gardnerville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Dehne, Donald ~ Wednesday, December 1, 1999. Donald Lawrence Dehne, 69, a Jacks Valley resident for 29 years, died on Nov. 27 in Carson City.A family and friends gathering will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Carson City home of Carol Tierney.Mr. Dehne was born in Grand Forks, N.D., on Nov. 1, 1930, and was educated in the U.S. and Germany.He served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, then pursued a second career in Emergency Management for the State of Nevada from 1971 through his retirement in 1990Before moving to Nevada, Mr. Dehne lived in Ankara, Turkey. He is survived by parents, Dr. Edward and Marguerite Dehne of Carson City; his wife of 42 years, Lucy; sons Gary of Jacks Valley and Lance of Reno and daughter Denise Pursel of Reno; grandchildren, Grant and Denae, both of Reno; brother Sam of Reno and sister Loni Donley of Edgewood, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denna, Glenn ~ Wednesday, October 4, 2000. A funeral service will be held today at noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Third Ward in Minden for Glenn Denna, 63, who died Oct. 2 in Gardnerville.A 21-year area resident, he was born April 27, 1937, to Gus and Pearl Campbell Denna in California. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the church. Mr. Denna had lived five years at Lake Tahoe and worked in construction. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by daughter Julia Denna in 1970; brothers Frank and Gus Denna; and sisters Larue and Agnes Denna. Survivors include wife Virginia Denna of West Jordan, Utah; sons Glenn Denna Jr. of Florida, Guss Denna of Indiana, Max Denna of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Spencer Denna and Samuel Denna, both of West Jordan, Utah; daughters Kelli Schwen and Crista Garang, both of West Jordan, Janice Kocher and Virginia Turkington, both of Salt Lake City, Lois Colman of West Valley City, Utah, and Kimberly Russell of Gardnerville; brothers James Denna of Napa, Calif., Ervin Denna of Redwood City, Calif., and Maynard Denna of Montana; sister Wilma Colman of Honing, Calif.; and 24 grandchildren.

Desmond, Lois ~ Wednesday, December 1, 1999. Lois K. Desmond, former long-time resident of Gardnerville, died at her home in Corona, Calif., Nov. 27.She was 84. Mrs. Desmond was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne W. Desmond, in 1985, and by her daughter, Tess Desmond Stoddard, in 1993. The funeral Mass will be held on Dec. 2 at noon at St. Gall. During her residence in Gardnerville, Mrs. Desmond was actively involved in the Douglas County Senior Center activities. She loved painting and writing. At one time she wrote the Ranchos Roundup column for The Record-Courier. She attended St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.She is survived by daughters Dana Desmond and Mary Johnson of Gardnerville; Barbara Desmond of Coucil Bluffs, Iowa; Virginia Hernandez of Riverside, Calif.; and Lori Desmond and son-in-law, James F. Jusko, of Corona, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-granchildren.

Dideriksen, Rieta ~ Saturday, July 8, 2000. Rieta M. Dideriksen, 76, died on July 2 in Minden. A service was held yesterday, July 7, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Carson City. Burial will be on Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills, Calif. Mrs. Dideriksen was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Oct. 22, 1923, to Frank and Addie Irwin Lewis. She spent her childhood in Iowa and Missouri and moved to California in the early 1940s. She lived in Simi Valley for 16 years and moved to Minden seven years ago. Mrs. Dideriksen had been a Seventh Day Adventist since the age of 4, and she was a retired dental assistant. Predeceasing her were a twin brother, who died in childhood, and her son Gregory Allan and a daughter, Janet Marie McLane. Surviving are her husband Delbert W. Dideriksen of Minden, daughters Joan Martin of Lancaster, Calif., and Marsha Casey of Visalia, Calif., and step-daughter JoAnn Loeb of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Dietrich, Helen ~ Saturday, September 30, 2000. A funeral service for Helen B. Dietrich, 84, will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop St., Carson City. Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery, with Pastor Fred Muster officiating. Mrs. Dietrich died on Sept. 25 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno.She was born in Kiowa, Colo., on Feb. 22, 1916, to Arthur and Bertha Allison Peterson. Mrs. Dietrich lived in Carson City for 57 years and was married to the late Robert Earl Dietrich for 54 years. She ran the Novaki Store for many years and was a cafeteria cook at the Stewart Indian School. She was a member of the National Association of Federal Employees and Western Regional President of Eagles. Surviving are sons Dwaine Dietrich of Carson City and Donald Dietrich of Walker Lake, daughter Marlene June Bacon of Walker Lake, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Doak, Marguerite ~ Saturday, October 28, 2000. A funeral service for Marguerite Sere Doak, 86, will be held on Monday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. The service will be held at Hilltop Community Church, formerly Carson Valley Community Church, with Pastor Steve Erven officiating. Mrs. Doak died Oct. 26 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City. She was born Oct. 1, 1914, in Nevilly, France, to Jules and Marie Chevalier Sere. Mrs. Doak, a Minden resident since 1990, coming from San Jose, Calif., worked as an LVN. She was a past member of American Service Aid during World War II, past member of Lockheed Gem and Mineral Club, past officer for the board of trustees of the California Youth Symphony, sang as a coloratura-soprano in community light operas and enjoyed singing in church choirs. She was an avid gardener and won prizes at county fairs for her canned fruits and vegetables, as well as for her handcrafted items, including silk spinning and weaving, woodworking, silver casting, jewelry and doll making. She was also an expert seamstress, making her children's clothes and sewing for entire wedding parties. Mrs. Doak loved fishing and camping and once hung a 100-pound sturgeon. Predeceasing her were her parents, husband Robert Sherer Doak in 1982, brother Rene Sere and sister Juliette Sere. Survivors include her daughters Nelle O'Neill, Renee Korte and Michele Baumann, all of Minden, and Lydie Heidweiller of Pioneer, Calif., and son Malcolm R. Doak of West Port, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Burial will be at Los Gatos Memorial Park in California.

Doane, Agnes ~ Saturday, May 6, 2000. Agnes M. Doane, 96, died on April 29 at Nevada Health Care Center in Gardnerville. She was born on Dec. 18, 1903, in Blair, Kan., to Julian and Emma von Arx Krapf and was raised in St. Joseph, Mo. Mrs. Doane then lived in California, returning to St. Joseph from 1972 to 1990. She moved to Nevada in 1992. She was a homemaker and a seamstress with the Sun Garment Co. during the 1940s. Mrs. Doane was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville and past member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Lakewood, Calif., and Immaculate Conception and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in St. Joseph. She was predeceased by her three brothers and six sisters. Survivors include her daughter Shirley Beaver of Minden; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A prayer service was held for Mrs. Doane on May 4 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph, with The Rev. Michael Volkmer, C.PP.S., Celebrant. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Wathena, Kan.

Dobbins, Paul ~ Wednesday, December 8, 1999. A memorial service for Paul C. Dobbins, 77, will be held Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Mr. Dobbins died on Dec. 5 at his home in Carson City, where he lived for 20 years, coming from Phoenix, Ariz. He retired from Cubix Corp. in Carson City in 1993. Surviving Mr. Dobbins are his wife Juanita; daughters Vicki Shell and Kristine Fiegehen, both of Carson City, and Cathy Ghetta of ElDorado, Ark., and sons Jon Carlson of Pine, Ariz., Bruce Dobbins of Morongo Valley, Calif., and David Dobbins of Texarkana, Ark.; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Dobbs, Ethel ~ September 4, 1999. Ethel E. Dobbs, 79, died on Aug. 30 at her home in Gardnerville. She was born in Michigan on March 8, 1920, to Robert and Margaret Derf Syester. Mrs. Dobbs was a homemaker and resided in Santa Ana, Calif., before coming to Gardnerville nine years ago. She enjoyed cooking, collecting Avon decanters, car rides, the outdoors and, especially, spending time with her family. Her husband predeceased her in 1959. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew A. Sr. and Michelle Dobbs, sister Elena Syester, all of Gardnerville, and three grandchildren.

Dominguez, John ~ Wednesday, March 8, 2000. A gathering was held on Sunday, March 5, for John James Dominguez at Rita Longnecker's home in Gardnerville. Mr. Dominguez died on March 1 at his Gardnerville home at the age of 71. He was born on Jan. 12, 1929, in Fillmore, Calif., to Israel and Emila Dominguez. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam and retired after 20 years service. Mr. Dominguez moved to Gardnerville from Long Beach, Wash., five years ago. He loved fishing and traveling and was an avid photographer. He enjoyed going to the casinos. He also loved sitting in his favorite spot overlooking Topaz Lake. Survivors include his daughters Rita M. Longnecker of Gardnerville and Margarite Barker of Ventura, Calif., and son Mike L. Dominguez of Oxnard, Calif.; sisters Estelle Walton of Newhall, Calif., Frances Martinez of Oxnard and Barbara Dominguez of San Jose, Calif.; and grandchildren Paul Jr., Anthony, Cera Jane and Donald Jr.

Dorrance, James ~ Saturday, April 22, 2000. A memorial service for James Michael Dorrance, 65, will be held on May 6 at 2 p.m. at FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Mr. Dorrance died on April 18 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City from complications of syringomyelia and quadriplegia. He was born on Aug. 18, 1934, in Bakersfield, Calif., to James and Syble Boring Dorrance. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. Mr. Dorrance attended Pomona College and graduated from California State College in 1964. He was an English teacher at Gardena High School, where he met his wife, Patricia K. Stanley. They were married in Los Angeles on April 14, 1967. He was a consultant with the IRS, retiring in 1992. He then moved from Fremont, Calif., to Gardnerville. Predeceasing Mr. Dorrance were his parents and brother John Dorrance, who died in 1990. Surviving are his wife Patricia of Gardnerville; sons Ethan Samuel Dorrance and wife Betsy of Gardnerville and Timothy K. Dorrance of Berkeley, Calif.; sister Linda and husband Dr. Henry Bennett of Davis, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Drange, William ~ Saturday, October 14, 2000 A private service will be held for William (Bill) O. Drange, 86, a Northern Nevada resident for the past 20 years, who died Oct. 2 at the Carson Healthcare facility in Carson City. He was born on May 25, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., to Tolef and Signe Drange and grew up in San Francisco, graduating from Lowell High School in 1931. He was an Eagle Scout and an avid sportsman. He played handball for the Olympic Club for many years and baseball in the AAA League. Before moving to Nevada, he lived in Marin County in California. Mr. Drange was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines, and for many years, he and his wife Carolyn were active members of the American Merchant Marine Veterans Hi Sea Era Chapter. Predeceasing Mr. Drange were his parents and sister Sigrid Arnone. Survivors include Carolyn, his wife of 56 years; sons Dr. Stuart S. Drange of Gardnerville and Eric L. Drange of Cape Cod, Mass., and daughter Sandra D. Cooke of Minden; sister Borgny Haugan of San Rafael, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Dressler, Marvin ~ October 12, 1999. Marvin "Unoah" Dressler, 80, a lifetime resident of Carson Valley, died on Oct. 9 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City.A funeral service will be tomorrow, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. at FitzHenry's, and burial will follow at Stewart Indian Cemetery in Carson City. Mr. Dressler was born in Nevada on April 3, 1919, to Harry and Amilia Fred Dressler. He was a Washoe Tribal Elder and a teacher with the Washoe Language Immersion School and at the University of Nevada, Reno. He loved watching his grandchildren playing sports and enjoyed long rides and being with his family. Mr. Dressler was predeceased by his brother John. Survivors include sons Shuman Dressler of Gardnerville and Thurman Dressler of Carson City and daughter Maureena Dressler of Markleeville; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Dressler, Myron ~ October 9, 1999. A graveside service for Myron P. Dressler, 99, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 10 a.m. at Mottsville Cemetery in Minden. Mr. Dressler died on Oct. 4 in Eugene, Ore., where he had lived since 1984. Mr. Dressler was born on June 19, 1900, in Gardnerville to W.F. and Margueretta Park Dressler. He was a distributor for Richfield oil in Minden for many years. In 1962, he married Lucy Wolfer in Oregon. She died in 1985. Mr. Dressler enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was a member of Bethel Church of God in Oregon. Beside his wife Lucy, he was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Brown, and brothers Irwin, Carroll and H. Dressler. Survivors include a brother, Milton Dressler of Moraga, Calif., a sister, Margueretta Jeffery of Walnut Creek, Calif., and family friend Betty Bean of Roseburg, Ore.

Duford, Robert ~ September 22, 1999. Robert A. "Big Bob" Duford, 47, a former Gardnerville resident, died at his Carson City home on Sept. 17 from complications of diabetes. Mr. Duford was born on Nov. 28, 1951, in Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing at Topaz Lake. Survivors include his mother Marie Mitchell and brother Glenn Mitchell, both of Pennsylvania.

Dugdale, Jeannette ~ Wednesday, September 13, 2000. Jeannette "Mickey" Dugdale, 80, a longtime resident of Zephyr Cove, died on Sept. 3 in Reno. She had resided at Manor Care since May of this year. A celebration of life will be held at Zephyr Cove later this month, and burial will be in Hollywood, Calif. Mrs. Dugdale was born in Lincoln, Neb., on July 26, 1920, to Professor and Mrs. Clark Mickey. Following her graduation from the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and president of the Womens' Athletic Association, she enjoyed careers in the entertainment field on both coasts. She worked with the Fred Waring television show in New York City and later directed for CBS in Hollywood. She also taught physical education at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Mrs. Dugdale served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Womens' Reserve, at El Toro, Calif., from 1944 through 1946, where she taught 85 women to drive trucks. Her husband, Charles B. Dugdale, was also a broadcaster and fellow-Nebraskan. They spent most of their marriage in Van Nuys, Calif., and later had a summer home at Lake Tahoe. After his death, Mrs. Dugdale fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe fulltime. Mrs. Dugdale was a charter member of Pacific Pioneer Broadcasters, the 99's, San Fernando Pilots Association, YWCA, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Dr. Janice Mickey and siblings Justine and James Mickey.

Duncker, Amelia ~ Wednesday, May 3, 2000. Amelia Armita "Millie" Duncker, 84, died at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe on April 17. A memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville on April 25, officiated by Father Bill Nadeau. Mrs. Duncker was born in Chicago, on Oct. 17, 1915, to Joe and Minnie Corradine. She was married to Eugene B. Duncker on Aug. 8, 1936, in Gary, Ind. They lived in Chicago until 1959, when they moved to Los Angeles. In 1977, the Dunckers moved to South Lake Tahoe, then to Woodfords in 1992. After her husband died in 1998, Mrs. Duncker moved to Gardnerville. Mrs. Duncker was a real estate broker for 25 years while in Los Angeles. She and her husband owned Dunckers Century 21 Realty in Sherman Oaks. She was a member of Century 21's Million Dollar Club for many years. Wherever she went, she spread joy and laughter. Mrs. Duncker will always be remembered by her family, friends and clients as "The Cookie Lady" for her seemingly unending supply of delicious baked treats. Survivors include sons Eugene C. Duncker of Lancaster, Calif., and Joseph W. Duncker of Woodfords; granddaughters Kristina Ribali of McMinnville, Ore. and Angelique Treadway of Cankton, La.; great-grandson Nicholas Ribali of McMinnville, Ore.; sisters Theresa Drobitsch of Palmdale, Calif., and Emma Onorato of Granada Hills, Calif.
