Abbott, Irene (Irma) ~ Wednesday, July 12, 2000. Irene (Irma) Abbott, 72, a Gardnerville resident for the past 10 years, died on July 7 at Sierra Convalescent Center in Carson City. She was born in Bakersfield, Calif., on Oct. 1, 1927, to Ralph and Helen Carey Abbott. She worked for the state of California for 25 years and had lived in Lakewood before moving to Gardnerville. Ms. Abbott was a member of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church and of the Ladies Fleet Reserve Association, LA FRA Sierra Tahoe Unit 137, for the past six years. She enjoyed gardening and needlepoint. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Leona Scherer. Surviving are her brother Cecil Abbott and his wife Nora of Gardnerville. A private inurnment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, Calif.

Aguilar, Fred ~ Friday, September 1, 2000. A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated for Fred Luis Aguilar, 58, of Bellaire, Texas, yesterday, Aug. 29, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. Mr. Aguilar was the husband of former Gardnerville resident Joyce Weaver. Rite of committal will be held in Gardnerville on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 10 a.m. at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden, with the Rev. Emil P. Leising officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit at the home of Nathan Leising from noon to 2 p.m. Mr. Aguilar died on Aug. 25. He was born in Chuquicamata, Chile, South America. He received his architecture degree from the University of Chile and, after coming to the United States in 1969, received a master's degree in architecture from Rice University. Mr. Aguilar was a practicing architect in Houston and formed his own company, Fred L. Aguilar, Architects and Associates Inc. On Oct. 19, 1971, he married Joyce Weaver, who was born and raised in Gardnerville and graduated from Douglas High School in 1965. They were married by Max Jones. In 1981, Mr. Aguilar became a U.S. citizen in a ceremony witnessed by his wife and daughters. He was predeceased by his father, Guillermo Jesus Aguilar, and his father-in-law, Rollie Weaver. Survivors include his mother, Luisa Aguilar of Santiago, Chile; wife Joyce Weaver Aguilar; daughters Marcy Nicol Aguilar and Emily Carol Aguilar of Bellaire; brothers and sisters Jaime Aguilar of Chile, Gloria Aguilar of Miami, Fla., Guillermo Aguilar of Houston, Daisy Aguilar of Paraguay, Eduardo Aguilar of Chile and Leticia Aguilar of Chile; mother-in-law L. Nora Weaver; sister-in-law Linda Safford and husband Charlie of Lovelock; brother-in-law and wife Ned and Terry Weaver of Carson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Aldridge, Barbara ~ Wednesday, July 26, 2000. Barbara Diane Aldridge, 64, a Topaz Ranch Estates resident for 24 years, died at her home on July 20. She was born on Aug. 16, 1935, in Inglewood, Calif., to Harold and Katherine Gelhardt Brown. On Dec. 7, 1951, she and William Aldridge were married in Tijuana, Mexico. The couple lived in several communities in Southern California until 1970, when they moved to Coleville, where Mrs. Aldridge raised rabbits. In 1976, they moved to Topaz Ranch Estates, where she enjoyed gardening, fishing and cooking. Survivors include her husband Bill Aldridge; son Jim Aldridge of Topaz Ranch Estates and daughter Kimberly Taylor of Crestwood, Ky.; brothers Arthur Brown of Carlsbad, Calif., and Robert Brown of San Pedro, Calif., and sisters Virginia Walpole of Olympia, Wash., Gert Stone of Hollywood, Calif., Dorothy Matthews of Yucaipa, Calif., Gerry Giles of Seattle, Wash., Ellie Monahan of Yerington, Mary Bernard of Millington, Tenn., Patricia Rusher of Alaska, and Shirley Bechtel of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren Ryan and Katie Taylor of Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Allen, Richard ~ February 16, 2000. A memorial service for Richard Allen, 76, will be held tomorrow, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Carson Valley Community Church, 3616 N. Sunridge Dr., Carson City. Mr. Allen died on Feb. 14 at his Minden home. He was born on April 30, 1923, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Charles and Mary Flynn Allen. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, made up of aviation enthusiasts. He enjoyed working on home-built aircraft and had a machine shop in his garage. Mr. Allen lived in Minden since 1970, moving from West Covina, Calif. He was a machinist and retired from Bently Nevada after 17 years. His wife Vivian "Billie" preceded him in death in 1991. Surviving are his son Michael Allen of Carson City; brother James Allen of Phoenix, Ariz., and sister Rosemary Heimer of Oxnard, Calif.

Andersen, Margaret ~ Wednesday, December 8, 1999. Funeral services for Margaret A. Clark Andersen, 83, will be Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at Walton's Sparks Funeral Home. Mrs. Andersen died on Dec. 5 at Hearthstone of Northern Nevada. She was a resident of Sparks for over 50 years. She retired as an elementary school teacher, having taught in Douglas, Storey, Washoe, Lincoln and Nye counties for 33 years. Her husband, Holger J. "Hap" Andersen, preceded her in death. Surviving are her son Warren of Reno, daughter Faye of Sparks and two grandchildren.

Anderson, Harlan ~ September 29, 1999. A graveside service for Harlan E. Anderson, 64, will be held tomorrow, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Garden Cemetery in Gardnerville. Rev. Emil Leising will officiate. Mr. Anderson, a rancher and life-time Gardnerville resident, died on Sept. 26 at his home. He was born in Reno on Oct. 10, 1934, to Charles and Ella Marquat Anderson. From 1957 to 1959, he served as a seaman in the U.S. Navy. In 1968, he married Edna Overton. Mr. Anderson belonged to the Farm Bureau of Douglas County and the Wool Board and was a past member of the Carson Valley active 20-30 Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William, Henry and Harold, sister Arlie Ella Bruns and his wife Edna in 1990. Surviving are his long-time companion Ruth Gibson of Gardnerville; nephews Dennis Bruns of Gardnerville, Jimmy Anderson of Minden, David Bruns of Washoe Valley and Lloyd Anderson of Oklahoma; nieces Leola Tucker of Carson Valley and Karen Benavidez of Victorville, Calif.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Atchison, Dorothy ~ Wednesday, June 28, 2000. A funeral for Dorothy V. Atchison, 94, a Genoa resident since 1942, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Mrs. Atchison died June 27 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1906, in Florence, Colo. to Hiriam Gaddy and Effie Delong Gaddy. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, on Jan. 1, 1981, and her daughter Virginia Ammon on June 13, 1983. Prior to living in Genoa, she resided in Wyoming. Mrs. Atchison was a homemaker. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as secretary for more than 20 years. Mrs. Atchison was of the Methodist faith. Among her survivors are her sons Tom Bryan of Grass Valley, Calif., Don Atchison of Fallon and Dennis Atchison of Wellington; daughters Sybil Ridinger of Grass Valley, Phyllis Pedrojetti of Newport, Ore., and Pat Willard of Genoa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be at Genoa Cemetery.

Atchison, Susan ~ Saturday, February 19, 2000. A memorial service for Susan Kaye Atchison, 64, will be held today, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m at the Carson Valley Community Church, with Pastor Joel Berger officiating. Mrs. Atchison died on Feb. 15 at her Carson City residence. She was born on Dec. 4, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John and Dorothy Grover O'Neill. A lifetime resident of Nevada, she graduated from Reno High School in 1953 and retired from the State of Nevada. Mrs. Atchison was a life member of VFW Auxiliary #9211. She was an artist and enjoyed painting and working with ceramics. Preceding her in death were her father, husband William Atchison and sister Bette Shannon. Surviving are her mother Dorothy G. Christman of Carson City; son Sean E. Atchison of Sparks and daughter Colleen K. Logan of Vancouver, Wash.; brother Patrick Norton of Reno and sister Vickie Spruill of Winthrop, Wash.; and grandchildren Athena B. Logan and Nicholas A. Logan, both of Vancouver.

Averill, Jessie ~ Saturday, May 13, 2000. Jessie Alice Averill, 81, died on May 10 in Stockton, Calif. A memorial service is being held today, May 13, at DeYoung Memorial Chapel in Stockton, with Valley Oaks Chapter OES officiating. A native of Gardnerville, Mrs. Averill was born Sept. 28, 1918, to Merritt J. and Martha E. Steward Olds and was a graduate of Douglas County High School. She had resided in Stockton for more than 30 years and retired from Rough and Ready Depot after many years as a teletype operator for the Navy. She was a member of Esther Chapter #3 OES in Carson City and Valley Oaks Chapter #50 OES, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Order of the Amaranth, Grand Cross of Colors Rainbow for Girls and Women of the Moose Chapter #38, all of Stockton. Mrs. Averill was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald Averill, sister Louise Averill and brother Merritt Olds. Surviving are her sister Lenore Bergevin of Gardnerville; nieces Donna Steele of Dunkeld, Scotland, and Marcia Bernard and Linda Curtis, both of Carson City; nephew James Averill of Springfield, Ore.; step-daughter Gail Ross of Sparks; and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
