Here's the
house where my mother, Alvina Stein was born. This
picture was taken in late 1903 or early 1904 of the family
in front of their home with three of their children. (Mother
was born in Nov. 1904.) The house was located on the land
where the Lincoln air base is now located, so, of course,
the house is long gone.
Sitting on the porch is my grandfather, William John Henry
Stein, (1871)
In the chair is my grandmother, Mary Rachel Thatcher Stein,
(1878)
holding daughter my aunt Lottie Marie Stein (12-26-1902)
The little boy standing is their son, my uncle, Franklin
Henry Stein 5-03-1900
The little girl in the small chair is their daughter, my
aunt Florence Catherine Stein 10-15-1901
Notice there are two dogs up near the porch behind Aunt
Florence.

Any details
available on the Harmen DeVries family while living in
Holland, Lancaster, would be appreciated.
Submitted by Curtis Menning
The first photo is of Harmen (Herman) DeVries who lived in
Holland, Lancaster, Nebraska around 1883 - 1886 where his
first two children were born. They later moved to Iowa and
finally settled in South Dakota during the rush to establish
South Dakota as a farming state. He is buried in South
Dakota as well as several of his children.
The second photo is of the
Harmen (Herman) DeVries family taken later in
South Dakota.

The third photo is of the
family of the brother to Harmen DeVries. I am not
certain the brother lived in Nebraska but the research on
their families is made difficult by the fact that Harmen and
his brother were two of triplets. Note the badge and the
similar faces on the brothers - but then "we Dutch folks all
look alike anyway."
